Every London borough has something going for it. Hackney<\/a> has its countless cool bars and music venues, Camden is full of cultural and historical landmarks,\u00a0Westminster has an abundance of Michelin star restaurants and Southwark has its rich spread of tourist attractions, local gems and food markets. But is one borough better than all the rest?\u00a0The\u00a0Telegraph<\/a>\u00a0thinks so.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The paper has dug into data from across all 32 London boroughs to determine which one really is the \u2018best\u2019. It handed out points across 37 different categories, which all came under one of four broader categories: great outdoors, good vibes, culture and activities and hospitality. Those more specific metrics included\u00a0how much green space the area has, how many top-rated restaurants, hotels and music venues it has, and how many\u00a0heritage sites it possesses.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With an overall\u00a0score of 791, Richmond upon Thames\u00a0<\/strong>was crowned the best borough in London. Obviously, it was a high performer across the board, but particularly excelled in the \u2018great outdoors\u2019 and \u2018good vibes\u2019\u00a0categories.<\/p>\n

Nearly 40 percent of Richmond upon Thames is public open space. There\u2019s the sprawling, stag-roamed Richmond Park<\/a>, as well as Bushy Park<\/a>, the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew<\/a>, Hampton Court Palace<\/a> and the WWT London Wetland Centre<\/a> in Barnes. All those habitats mean that the borough is home to a whopping 9,111 wildlife species.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Telegraph\u00a0awarded Richmond 180 points for \u2018good vibes\u2019,\u00a0a category\u00a0based on crime rates, population density, and the happiness of its residents. It has one of the lowest population densities in the capital, an annual crime rate of just 61.7 per 1,000<\/a>\u00a0and last year was named the second happiest place to live in the whole of the UK<\/a> in Rightmove\u2019s Happy at Home Index. That index considered several categories not included in the\u00a0Telegraph\u2019s\u00a0methodology, including\u00a0proximity to services like schools, doctors and shops and sense of community.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When it comes to culture and activities, Richmond\u00a0came second in the capital. It earned points for having the \u2018home of rugby\u2019 Twickenham Stadium, two golf courses and eight accredited museums and heritage sites, like Strawberry Hill House<\/a> and Ham House<\/a>. With one Michelin star restaurant (the Dysart Petersham), and one of\u00a0the paper\u2019s top 500 best pubs in England (the Mason Arms),\u00a0it ranked 13th in the city for hospitality.\u00a0See how the\u00a0Telegraph\u00a0ranked every London borough here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n
