Benny Martin was buried today in St John\u2019s Cemetery in the Co Tyrone village, following his funeral Mass this afternoon at St Peter\u2019s Church in the neighbouring Collegeland area \u2013 which is just beside the Moy in Co Armagh.<\/p>\n

A death notice for Mr Martin said he passed away peacefully at Craigavon Area Hospital on Thursday, October 24, with his loving family by his side.<\/p>\n

A lifelong resident of Charlemont Road \u2013 where the Martin family\u2019s funeral home is also located \u2013 Mr. Martin was a familiar and trusted figure in the region as the face of Benedict J. Martin & Son.<\/p>\n

The family business established by his late father in 1950 has long been an integral part of the local community.<\/p>\n

Benny was the devoted husband of Maura, cherished father of Benedict and Maria, father-in-law of Stephen, and proud grandfather to Dara and Jude, his death notice read.<\/p>\n

He was also the beloved son of the late Benny and Anna Martin, and brother to Mary (Ashford), Francis, Sean, and the late Eugene.<\/p>\n

Since news of his death, heartfelt tributes have been made to the late Mr Martin. One mourner wrote:<\/p>\n

\u201cHeartbroken to hear the sad news of a great gentleman who will be sadly missed. R.I.P. Benny \u2014 you were one in a million. Condolences to the family at this sad time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others remembered him simply as \u201ca true gentleman\u201d and \u201ca wonderful character.\u201d<\/p>\n

One neighbour described him as \u201ca decent man\u201d and \u201ca great character who will be missed\u201d.<\/p>\n

The committee and members of Collegeland O’Rahillys Gaelic football club stated that they \u201cdeeply regret the passing of Benedict (Benny) Martin\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cBenny, former player and long time supporter, he participated in our Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser in 2014,\u201d they added. <\/p>\n

“Benny\u2019s father was also Chairman in 1961, overseeing our Senior Championship win.<\/p>\n
