An NHS<\/a> manager embezzled thousands of pounds from doctors while working at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh to feed her \u201cout of control\u201d gambling habit.<\/p>\n Jacqueline Robertson stole more than \u00a38,000 from the medics who had handed over cash to stay overnight at the capital hospital<\/a> over an 11 month period.<\/p>\n Edinburgh<\/a> Sheriff Court was told the 59-year-old cleaning manager had been embezzling the cash while spending up to \u00a3100 per day on a gambling addiction.<\/p>\n Robertson pleaded guilty to embezzling \u00a38,630 while working at the capital\u2019s Royal Hospital for Sick Children<\/a> between January 1 and November 12, 2018 when she appeared at the city\u2019s sheriff court today, Monday, October 27.<\/p>\n Fiscal depute Peter Finnon told the court<\/a> Robertson was employed as the domestic supervisor at the hospital and was responsible for taking payments from doctors who were staying overnight on the premises.<\/p>\n Mr Finnon said: \u201cThe process for that was doctors would meet Ms Robertson in person usually at the end of the month and pay for the night spent in cash.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was Ms Robertson\u2019s responsibility to take the cash to the office to be processed.<\/p>\n \u201cThere was no residency payments made to NHS Lothian through that period.<\/p>\n \u201cThe figure covers a number of doctors who resided at the hospital at that time.\u201d<\/p>\n Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!<\/p>\n Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today.<\/p>\n You’ll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland.<\/p>\n No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Daily Record team.<\/p>\n All you have to do is click here<\/a>, select ‘Join Community’ and you’re in!<\/p>\n We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
