Take a look at the full list of the North East neighbourhoods which are among England’s most deprived areas, according to extensive research. The 225 strong list contains 42 areas in County Durham<\/a>, South Tyneside<\/a>, Newcastle<\/a>, Sunderland<\/a>, Northumberland<\/a>, Hartlepool<\/a> and Gateshead<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The data comes from the Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion, commissioned by the Local Trust to analyse the impact of social infrastructure on the outcomes of people living in the country’s most deprived communities.<\/p>\n

The Local Trust was established in 2012 to deliver the National Lottery<\/a> Community Fund programme Big Local, which provides 150 neighbourhoods across England with \u00a31million each to use to improve their area.<\/p>\n

On a national level, the research found that the neighbourhoods were predominantly located in post-industrial and coastal areas of the North of England and the Midlands. There were few neighbourhoods that fell into this ‘left behind’ category in London and other city centres.<\/p>\n

Locally, 16 of the 42 North East areas on the list are in County Durham, with Sunderland and Northumberland being the next areas with the highest number of neighbourhoods included.<\/p>\n

In March, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer<\/a> launched the \u00a35billion Pride in Place programme, giving 169 communities \u00a320m over a decade to invest in improving their local area, and at the time he said the following:<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re investing in the UK\u2019s future, by backing the true patriots that build our communities up in neighbourhoods across every corner of the country. Because it\u2019s people who bring pride, hope and life to our communities.<\/p>\n

“This is a huge investment, but what matters most is who decides how it\u2019s spent: the neighbours, volunteers and parents who know their communities best, the people with real skin in the game.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re choosing renewal over decline, unity over division. This is our Plan for Change in action, giving power and pride back to the people who make Britain great.”<\/p>\n
