Passengers are facing travel chaos after a major airport for British holidaymakers was forced to close following reports of drones in the area. Police are currently investigating at Alicante-Elche Airport in eastern Spain<\/a> after drones were reportedly spotted near the airport on Monday evening (October 27), resulting in planes being diverted.<\/p>\n Officials have confirmed nine planes have been diverted so far, and no aircraft are currently being allowed to take off or land while the incident is investigated.<\/a><\/p>\n The closure has caused significant disruption, with several flights from the UK affected<\/a>, reports the Mirror<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to Aena, the agency that operates airports in Spain, Ryanair flights from London, Manchester<\/a>, Newcastle, Durham, and Frankfurt have all been diverted until 11 pm local time.<\/p>\n A post from Aena on X reads: “Due to the presence of a #drone in the vicinity of the #Alicante-#Elche Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez #Airport, flight diversions are occurring.<\/p>\n “We are working together with the Security Forces to normalize operations as soon as possible.
