The husband of a beloved mum who suddenly died has spoken of his grief as he honours her memory on the first anniversary of her death.<\/p>\n

Emily Moss – an \u2018incredible mum\u2019 and a \u2018very giving person\u2019 from Burnage<\/a> – died in November 2024 from sudden heart failure caused by a condition she developed during pregnancy.<\/p>\n

Her husband, Nathan, 34, knew he wanted to do something in his wife’s memory to reflect the compassion she showed in her work and life, and decided to climb Mount Toubkal – North Africa\u2019s highest peak – to raise money for Trafford<\/a> Domestic Abuse Services (TDAS), a charity Emily used to work for. Speaking of Emily’s heart condition, he said: \u201cWhen she gave birth to Isobel we found out she had this heart condition. It was probably the hardest time we had together, because we\u2019d gone from being just us two to then having a newborn, and then finding out about Emily\u2019s heart condition on top of that.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer condition was managed through medication. Her last check-up before she died was in August, and by all accounts everything was where it should be.\u201d<\/p>\n

But on November 9, 2024, Emily, 33, suffered sudden heart failure caused by peripartum cardiomyopathy after dropping off her then four-year-old at a dancing lesson.<\/p>\n

Nathan said: \u201cWe always knew it was a possibility that it could happen, but because of the positive results from the tests, it wasn\u2019t really something that was ever at the forefront of our minds.<\/p>\n

\u201cEmily had taken Isobel to dancing, came home, and went upstairs to get ready to go shopping with her mum. Her mum thought she was taking a bit too long, went upstairs and she\u2019d had a heart attack on the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nathan was at work in Birmingham when Emily\u2019s mum found her collapsed upstairs. When he got to the hospital in Greater Manchester, he knew something was wrong.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cI wasn\u2019t told that she\u2019d died. I was told that she\u2019d collapsed. But when I got to the hospital, I was ushered into a side room, and I knew she\u2019d died, because if she hadn\u2019t, I\u2019d have been taken straight to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had the funeral in December and it was packed. There were about 300 people there. People couldn\u2019t get in and they were standing outside in the freezing cold just to hear the service.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a nice reminder of how liked she was, how many people\u2019s lives she\u2019d touched.\u201d<\/p>\n

The couple – who met at high school and started going out when they were 16 and 17 – got married on November 27, 2018 and were planning to have a second child before tragedy struck.<\/p>\n

Now Nathan is trying to keep her memory alive and \u2018be more Emily\u2019 by raising money for the domestic abuse charity.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cShe was a very giving person. She never really held a grudge. She would move mountains to help other people – often to her own demise.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m trying to be a bit more Emily – just being a bit more open, helping people, being a bit more patient.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing a mum was probably the best thing about her, because all the patience she had for everybody else went into being a parent. She was great. I didn\u2019t know what I was doing, and she was just great.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was an incredible parent, an incredible mum and that\u2019s credit to her mum as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the hardest things I\u2019ve struggled with since she died is doing things the way that Emily would have done it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the hardest thing for me to learn – and that I\u2019m still learning every day – is how to do my little girl\u2019s hair. Regrettably, as a dad, it\u2019s something that I just let her mum do. Her best friend actually booked me onto a hairdressing course for dads.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nathan will climb Mount Toubkal in Morocco on November 28 – 29 with one of his close friends, Will Sargison.<\/p>\n

The GoFundMe page he set up for the climb<\/a> has already received over \u00a32,000 in donations – which will go directly to TDAS – in the week that it\u2019s been live.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cThese two weeks are always tricky – my birthday’s on the 24th, our anniversary is the 27th, and then the anniversary of her passing is on the 9th.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a nice way for me to remember Emily, and for other people to remember her too – by helping others.\u201d<\/p>\n
