{"id":53330,"date":"2025-04-26T23:37:28","date_gmt":"2025-04-26T23:37:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/53330\/"},"modified":"2025-04-26T23:37:28","modified_gmt":"2025-04-26T23:37:28","slug":"city-centre-skate-park-inside-old-debenhams-going-from-strength-to-strength","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/53330\/","title":{"rendered":"City centre skate park inside old Debenhams going &#8216;from strength to strength&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It opened in March<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_BRI_PG_210325SHREDENHAMS_-330.jpg\" alt=\"'Shredenhams' will be a temporary venue, however, as the building will be demolished.\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>&#8216;Shredenhams&#8217; will be a temporary venue, however, as the building will be demolished.(Image: PAUL GILLIS \/ Reach PLC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A new skate park in a former department store in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bristol-city-centre\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol city centre<\/a> has been going &#8220;from strength to strength&#8221; since its opening last month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/whats-on\/whats-on-news\/gallery\/first-look-inside-new-city-10050529\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Shredenhams\u2019 opened their doors on March 21<\/a> to give a new lease of life to the vacant Debenhams store, which closed in 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The space &#8211; which also has a caf\u00e9 and bar and other games &#8211; has given the old Debenhams a temporary use before a redevelopment project happens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The skatepark, created by Campus Skateboarding, has been a big success.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Millie, the General Manager of \u2018Shredenhams\u2019 said: \u201cWe have had numerous people using the space and we have had people that are coming back and lots of familiar faces that have been coming twice a week to use the skatepark.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But Millie said: \u201cIt is more than just a skatepark. The caf\u00e9 and bar are open to the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;We have got lots of other games going on. We have got ping pong tables, pin ball machines, football tables, pool tables, darts. It\u2019s basically just a massive fun space for the whole community to use.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2_BRI_PG_210325SHREDENHAMS_-327.jpg\" alt=\"It would be the first time that the former Debenhams store had welcomed visitors since closing in 2021.\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>(Image: PAUL GILLIS \/ Reach PLC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u2018Shredenhams\u2019 ran their first session for under 16s on April 12. They will be running another session for under 16s on Saturday May 3. This will be a monthly event and will have more events during school holidays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The bar stocks local draft beer and is run by the people behind The Dame in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bedminster\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bedminster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The cocktails use Bristol Distillery Co alcohol and there is a happy hour from 5-7pm Wednesday to Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The caf\u00e9 also uses local coffee from Extract Coffee and from next week they are looking to open from 10am for people wanting to use the caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_BRI_PG_210325SHREDENHAMS_-359.jpg\" alt=\"The venue also contains a range of retro arcade machines.\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The venue also contains a range of retro arcade machines.(Image: PAUL GILLIS \/ Reach PLC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cYou don\u2019t have to skate, it is a space for everyone to come and enjoy,\u201d Millie said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt is an amazing thing to be able to use the space, even if it is just for the short term for something like this.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cBroadmead was crying out for some energy and somewhere to go that is cool,&#8221; she added. &#8220;There is stuff happening and there is stuff to do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;It feels like we have got a lot of support from the community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The opening times for \u2018Shredenhams\u2019 is 12pm-10:30pm Wednesday to Saturday and 12pm-8pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1_BRI_PG_210325SHREDENHAMS_-422.jpg\" alt=\"'Shredenhams' has opened in the former Debenhams store in Bristol.\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>&#8216;Shredenhams&#8217; has opened in the former Debenhams store in Bristol.(Image: PAUL GILLIS \/ Reach PLC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u2018Shredenhams\u2019 only has a temporary lease on the building and after six-months the site is set for demolition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In its place developers are<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/debenhams-demolition-update-landmark-bristol-9772666\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> planning to build tower blocks<\/a>, the tallest of which will be 28 storeys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The plans will provide 502 flats.
