The success of the debut album shocked members who ‘didn’t think we’d get in the charts’\"BirminghamBirmingham band The Clause have reached number eight in the UK Album Charts <\/p>\n

“To be honest, we didn’t even think we’d get in the charts,” said Liam Deakin, guitarist in The Clause.<\/p>\n

To the surprise of the Birmingham band, their debut album, ‘Victim Of A Casual Thing’, is eighth in the midweek Official Charts.<\/p>\n

At time of writing (October 28), The Clause is above Elton John, Sabrina Carpenter and continuing to rise.<\/p>\n

Released on October 24, ‘Victim Of A Casual Thing’ pays tribute to the band’s home by including Livery Street on the cover.<\/p>\n

Livery Street – a road famous for its length – was selected to reflect the band’s journey which has taken years of ‘graft and determination’.<\/p>\n

Without a label, the band is rubbing shoulders with Universal and Sony in the charts and Liam spoke to BirminghamLive about ‘The Clause’s ‘underdog’ story.<\/p>\n

He said: “I can’t believe it, I’m still completely bewildered. To be honest, we didn’t even think we’d get in the charts.<\/p>\n

“There’s no big team behind us, we just wanted the album to be released and be proud of it.<\/p>\n

“Being in the charts is icing on the cake, but it’s a testament to us, four friends from school who just wanted to throw our hand at music.<\/p>\n

“We’ve worked on our own for years and been able to do this without a label. It’s a story of the underdog.<\/p>\n

“We really worked on this and wanted to release a heavy album which was as good as possible.<\/p>\n

“As a city, Birmingham<\/a> has struggled in live music in recent years. A lot of bands go on tour and completely miss the city at the moment.<\/p>\n

“But we’re not a band that moved to Manchester or London. We did this on our doorstep and gave the city something we can be proud of.<\/p>\n

“You look at the Top 10 at the moment and you see labels like Sony and Universal – and then you just see The Clause which was a band born in a bedroom.<\/p>\n
