The service will be open to all, those of faith and without and tea\/coffee will be served at St Luke\u2019s Church afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>Hon Alderwoman Angela Gabriel BEM, who is the main organiser said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s always a pleasure to see people\u2019s faces when the see their knitted poppies up. This year Susan Murray and Helen Mylan have written all the names of the soldiers who are buried in Holbeck Cemetery. It is always important to remember what has been sacrificed for our freedoms.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Angela Gabriel, Cllr Andrew Scopes (Labour, Beeston &amp; Holbeck) and Cllr Paul Wray (Labour, Hunslet &amp; Riverside) put up knitted poppies in Holbeck Cemetery. As well as the usual red poppies there are white poppies tosymbolise commitment to peace and a desire to end all conflict and purple poppies to remember the animals who died in wars.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Andrew Scopes said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt is good to have a local remembrance service and my thanks to Angela and St Luke\u2019s Church for organising. It\u2019s a pleasure to be part of this sombre event.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Other Acts of Remembrance taking place on Sunday 9 November include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hunslet St Mary\u2019s Spire at 12:30pm<\/li>\n<li>Stourton War Memorial at 1pm<\/li>\n<li>Hunslet Cemetery War Memorial at 1:30pm<\/li>\n<li>Hunslet Carr Welcome Wheel at 2pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Food and refreshments will be served at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre from 2:30pm.
