A popular Bristol restaurant has apologised after a contractor it hired to dispose of rubbish was caught fly-tipping it<\/a> on a quiet country lane. A large amount of waste, including cooking oil containers and takeaway boxes, was dumped on Conham Hill in Hanham<\/a> at some point over the weekend.<\/p>\n The label on one bag amongst the pile of trash identified it as having come from Cappadocia, a successful Turkish restaurant in the centre of Bristol<\/a>. A spokesperson for the restaurant said they had employed a private contractor to dispose of the rubbish, thinking it would be taken to a recycling centre.<\/p>\n \u201cWe called a contractor to take the rubbish \u2026 with the belief that they were going to take it to the recycling centre,\u201d the spokesperson said. \u201cWe are shocked to hear this and have contacted them (to) ensure that it will be collected today.<\/p>\n \u201cApologies for the inconvenience, and sorry to hear that the contractor didn\u2019t take the rubbish to the recycling centre but left it in a random place instead.\u201d<\/p>\n Bristol Live contacted the contractor, who admitted to what he had done and said he was planning to clean up his mess. South Gloucestershire Council<\/a> said they had already cleared the rubbish away.<\/p>\n A council spokesperson confirmed its environmental enforcement team was investigating the matter further. SGC has been clamping down on fly tipping recently; criminals caught dumping rubbish in the local authority area were fined almost \u00a350,000 in the 2024\/25 financial year<\/a>.<\/p>\n Councillors have called for this money to be reinvested into council coffers, rather than going to central government. Cappadocia, which opened its first venue in Bath<\/a> in 2019, has become a firm favourite of Bristol diners since it launched on Baldwin Street in April 2024.
