Police are currently at the scene of an on-going security alert in the Glenalina Gardens area of west Belfast.<\/p>\n

Cordons are in place and the public are asked to avoid the area at this time.<\/p>\n

Local Sinn F\u00e9in councillor R\u00f3is-M\u00e1ire Donnelly said: \u201cThis security alert is causing serious disruption today, with residents being evacuated from their homes following the discovery of a suspicious device.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith children off school for the Halloween break, this has been particularly disruptive for families who\u2019ve had to leave their homes at short notice.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhiterock Community Centre has opened its doors to anyone needing somewhere to go, and I want to thank staff there for once again stepping up for the local community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been in contact with police and hope the situation can be resolved quickly so people can return home safely.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the meantime, I would urge people to avoid the area.\u201d<\/p>\n
