kpUGLA\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/going-out\/bars\/wetherspoons-zone-1-ranked-pub-a3936136.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wetherspoons<\/a> pubs are closing in the capital next month.<\/p>\n<p>Wetherspoons has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/uk\/wetherspoons-pubs-closing-london-uk-ireland-b1206340.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shut a number of pubs<\/a> this year, as the chain rejigs its portfolio to concentrate on fewer, larger sites.<\/p>\n<p>The next scheduled closures are The Water Gate in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/barnstaple\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barnstaple<\/a> (which will close on November 9) and the Baxter\u2019s Court in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/hackney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hackney<\/a> (closing on November 2).<\/p>\n<p>Sir <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/business\/business-news\/people-in-the-habit-of-drinking-at-home-postcovid-wetherspoon-s-boss-says-b1055487.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tim Martin<\/a>, the chain\u2019s founder, said that Wetherspoons \u201cregularly reviews\u201d the pubs it has on the books, and will keep tabs on which might be put up for sale.<\/p>\n<p>The chain previously said that the majority of the recent closures were \u201csmaller and older\u201d venues or the company has a second pub relatively close by.<\/p>\n<p>But lovers of the London pub have declared the upcoming closure \u201cutterly ridiculous\u201d, according to the Sun.<\/p>\n<p>They said: \u201cThis part of North London is hardly blessed with many Spoons to begin with.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Another fan said: \u201cWhat a shame. used to go there loads in college loved the \u2018roof terrace\u2019 upstairs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Barnstable pub has been described as a \u201csuperb spoons\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>One customer said they were \u201cgutted\u201d about the news of its closure.<\/p>\n<p>The pubs were put up for sale by Wetherspoons in June, along with four other pubs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Babington Arms \u2013 Derby <\/li>\n<li>Kentish Drovers, Peckham <\/li>\n<li>The Grey Friar, Preston <\/li>\n<li>The William Jameson, Sunderland <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They will continue operating as Wetherspoons until they\u2019re sold.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which Wetherspoons pubs <\/strong>have closed recently?<\/p>\n<p>Wetherspoons has been offloading smaller or older pubs in boozer opened in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/paddington-basin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paddington Basin<\/a> on Merchant Square, taking over the site of the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/going-out\/restaurants\/grace-dent-reviews-temper-easy-to-linger-and-over-eat-a3679631.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Temper<\/a> restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>Wetherspoons has plans to open pubs in more locations. Last month, the pub company signed a new franchise agreement with The Papas Group, which will include opening 15 new sites. <\/p>\n<p>That includes a new pub at Gateway Park, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/lincoln\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lincoln<\/a>, on the site of a former Gateway Park Brewers Fayre, and in Annitsford, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/stockton-on-tees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stockton-on-Tees<\/a> and Emersons Green.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Two Wetherspoons pubs are closing in the capital next month.
