A Birmingham social club ‘in talks’ with Aldi announced a major change over ‘rising costs’.<\/p>\n

Earlier this summer, the supermarket announced <\/a>it was interested in the site occupied by Weoley Castle Working Men\u2019s Club.<\/p>\n

Aldi<\/a> said the introduction of a new store in the area would ‘improve the immediate local retail offering, creating more competition and improving choice for the local community’.<\/p>\n

In August, Northfield<\/a> MP Lawrence Turner believed members of the social club had agreed to sell the site and were in the process of finding a new location.<\/p>\n

Ahead of a potential move, the social club announced on October 28 a major change for members.<\/p>\n

Assessing sales, the social club will now shut on Tuesdays which became ‘no longer financially viable’.<\/p>\n

On Facebook, Weoley Castle Social Club posted: “Dear members. As many of you are aware, the rising cost of day-to-day operations has prompted a thorough review of our club\u2019s financial sustainability.<\/p>\n

“Over the past three months, we\u2019ve carefully assessed sales versus expenditure.<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately, Tuesdays have proven to be no longer financially viable.<\/p>\n

“After careful consideration, the management committee has made the decision to close the club every Tuesday, effective Tuesday, November 4.<\/p>\n
