A prisoner has been charged with the murder of a convicted killer from Manchester.<\/p>\n

John Mansfield was jailed for life in 2007 for the murder in Whalley Range<\/a>, Manchester, of his 63-year-old neighbour, Ann Alfanso. She had been stabbed around 20 times in the head and neck.<\/p>\n

In 2014, Mansfield was handed a second life term after stabbing another prisoner with a broken plate at HMP Full Sutton, near York.<\/p>\n

But the 63 year-old was found dead with a head injury at high-security prison HMP Whitemoor near March, Cambridgeshire, on April 13 this year. Cambridgeshire Police said on Thursday that inmate Nathaniel Reece, 44, formerly from Islington, north London, has been charged with his murder.<\/p>\n

The force said officers had been called at about 4.10pm following the discovery of the body of Mansfield, 63, formerly from Manchester.<\/p>\n

A post-mortem examination at Addenbrooke\u2019s Hospital in Cambridge concluded that Mansfield died as a result of a head injury.<\/p>\n

Reece is due to appear before Cambridge Magistrates\u2019 Court on November 20 via videolink.<\/p>\n

Mansfield was sentenced in 2007 at Manchester Crown Court<\/a> to life in prison with a minimum term of 30 years for the murder of Ms Alfanso.<\/p>\n

Ms Alfanso, who suffered from reduced mobility, was found dead at her home in Whalley Range by her carer in August 2006.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the force said: “A man has been charged with murder following the death of a prisoner at HMP Whitemoor near March earlier this year. Police were called at about 4.10pm on Sunday, 13 April, following the discovery of the body of John Mansfield, 63, formerly from Manchester.<\/p>\n

“A post-mortem examination conducted at Addenbrooke\u2019s Hospital concluded Mr Mansfield died as a result of a head injury. Prison inmate Nathaniel Reece, 44, formerly from Islington, London, has been charged with murder and will appear at Cambridge Magistrates\u2019 Court on 20 November via video link.”<\/p>\n
