Prince William wasn\u2019t \u201cvery close\u201d with Queen Elizabeth for decades \u2014 but their relationship evolved from \u201cformal\u201d to \u201cwarm.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Prince of Wales explained to Eugene Levy during his recent \u201cReluctant Traveler\u201d interview<\/a> that he had a \u201cgood relationship\u201d overall with Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip.<\/p>\n \u201cMy grandparents were of a different generation,\u201d the future king, 43, said during the Oct. 3 episode of the AppleTV+ show. <\/p>\n Prince William made a rare comment on his and Queen Elizabeth\u2019s \u201cformal\u201d dynamic. Tim Graham Photo Library via Getty Images<\/p>\n \u201cI think when we were younger, it was harder to have that very close relationship because it was quite formal,\u201d William continued.<\/p>\n \u201cBut as they got older and I got older, it got warmer and warmer.\u201d<\/p>\n He confirmed that their dynamic was at its \u201cbest\u201d when Elizabeth and Philip were in their 80s once the duo had \u201csort of relaxed a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n He said on \u201cReluctant Traveler\u201d that Elizabeth and husband Prince Philip became \u201cwarmer\u201d with age. via REUTERS<\/p>\n William bonded \u201cbest\u201d with the couple when they were in their 80s. Getty Images<\/p>\n Elizabeth, for her part, passed away<\/a> the following September at age 96.<\/p>\n King Charles III took over the throne<\/a> \u2014 and William spoke on \u201cReluctant Traveler\u201d about assuming the role himself one day.<\/p>\n The prince claimed he doesn\u2019t feel \u201ctoo overwhelmed\u201d by the thought of being monarch despite wondering in his younger years, \u201cWow, are we actually doing this? Is this sort of happening?\u201d<\/p>\n Elsewhere in the interview, William spoke about becoming king one day. Apple TV<\/p>\n The prince is not \u201coverwhelmed\u201d by the thought. Samir Hussein\/WireImage<\/p>\n William noted, \u201cWith time and age, I think you feel a bit more settled in that side of things.
