Residents of a 2,500-strong protest group are due to meet Greater Manchester mayor <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/andy-burnham\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Andy Burnham<\/a> today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">To see planning applications; traffic and road diversions and layout changes; and more, visit the Public Notices Portal <\/strong><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/publicnoticeportal.uk\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">HERE<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Coun Fish told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS): \u201cWe\u2019re supposed to serve communities with integrity, but we\u2019ve got councillors coming out privately saying they didn\u2019t realise how tall the Tyldesley warehouses were going to be and that they wish they\u2019d voted against it, councillors falling asleep in meetings and turning up late.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">\u201cThe system can\u2019t support a community that\u2019s ruled by the national Government about what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">He went on: \u201cI get frustrated with the planning system, not just locally but nationally as well. The balance between developer interests and community input must be recalibrated to better reflect residents\u2019 views.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">In a letter to planning committee chair Coun Paul Kenny \u2013 seen by the LDRS \u2013 the Tyldesley and Mosley Common councillor said: \u201cI am writing to formally resign from the planning committee, effective immediately. While I have not taken this decision lightly, I believe it is in the best interests of myself, the residents I represent, the planning committee, and the local planning authority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">Meanwhile, speaking on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/bbc\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC<\/a> Radio Manchester today, Mr Burnham said: \u201cThe [Tyldesley] residents did get in touch and asked for a meeting. I will meet some of the residents later today with the local MP (Michael Wheeler).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"men\">\u201cI will always try and help. I do listen to people. Often, I do not have direct powers to intervene, and this is one of those instances.
