One month is a long time in football. At the start of October, Ruben Amorim’s position as Manchester United <\/a>head coach appeared under threat, after the Reds suffered a 3-1 defeat Brentford<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It left United down in 14th in the Premier League table on just seven points from their opening six matches – a return that increased the pressure on Amorim’s future at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

But the Reds secured a much-needed and morale-boosting 2-0 win against Sunderland<\/a> before the second international break of the season to relieve the scrutiny on Amorim’s shoulders.<\/p>\n

Going into United’s trip to Liverpool on October 19, it still felt as though the Reds were a defeat from the pressure rising again on Amorim and his position becoming – dare I say – potentially untenable.<\/p>\n

However, United produced a performance of real grit, determination and character to earn their first win at Anfield for almost a decade, as the Reds ran out 2-1 victors against their bitter rivals<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gary Neville was among those to call on United to follow back-to-back victories up with another positive performance and result against Brighton last weekend and the Reds did just that.<\/p>\n

United beat the Seagulls 4-2<\/a> to record their THIRD straight win to move up to fourth in the Premier League. While the Reds have since dropped to sixth after Tottenham and Bournemouth both won, Amorim won’t be too bothered about that at this stage, especially as he has got United back on the winning trail.<\/p>\n

As well as turning United into the third most in-form team in the Premier League across the last five matches behind Arsenal and Aston Villa, Amorim has changed the mood both inside and outside the dressing room. There is a feel-good factor and a real buzz – and that can be displayed within the squad on the pitch.<\/p>\n

Indeed, after the Reds beat Brighton, Amad and Bryan Mbeumo were filmed dancing in the changing room at Old Trafford. In the clip, Amad and Mbeumo break into a choreographed routine, complete with arm moves and a coordinated step sequence, much to the delight of their United team-mates.<\/p>\n

Although dancing post-match was often a theme when Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba shared a dressing room together, there wasn’t much of that during Erik ten Hag’s reign. It felt as though the mood and the spirit was not as high in the camp – even if United were winning and in good form.<\/p>\n

Amorim has seemed to flick the switch and give his United players more freedom to express themselves – both on and off the pitch – and it’s having its desired impact with their fortunes improving.<\/p>\n

There is a closer-knit feel within the squad, too. While there is going to be inevitable clicks, the players seem to be pulling in the right direction and backing each other up when times get tough.<\/p>\n

You saw in the Brighton game that players were busting their gut to get to second balls, supporting one another when a mistake was made and fighting to get the win – aspects that have often been missing.<\/p>\n

Ahead of United’s trip to The City Ground on Saturday, Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White was full of praise for how the Reds have rediscovered their identity in an interview earlier this week.<\/p>\n

“It’s been incredible to see, obviously they’ve been going through a tough time in the past couple of years,” Gibbs-White said. “But they’ve stuck with the gaffer [Amorim] and the past four or five games, you’re really starting to see how Man United should be playing, that grit and that determination to want to play for the badge. I feel like it’s been incredible to see, it’s something I feel like the league has missed.”<\/p>\n

Gibbs-White is right. United have a real team spirit and unity within their ranks which hasn’t been seen from the Reds since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time in charge – or even before that.<\/p>\n

Amorim has been integral to changing the mindset, but he has also allowed the players a little bit of fun and freedom – something that is helping get the best out of the squad, it’s safe to say.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Luke Shaw revealed in an Instagram post that Leny Yoro had to wear a gold blazer after losing crossbar challenge in training – a forfeit that Bruno Fernandes couldn’t believe.<\/p>\n

For me, that is the bit of entertainment behind-the-scenes that United have lacked in recent years. Every successful team has a good dressing room and a close-knit feel in it, and the Reds are getting closer to restoring that with Amorim at the wheel. He is doing an excellent job right now.<\/p>\n

As the culture and mood at United is now the best it has been in at least 18 months since winning the FA Cup, Amorim’s task is now to continue it moving forward into a critical period. They head to Forest and Tottenham before the November international break, and then host Everton after it.<\/p>\n

If United can come away from those three matches with at least six points – if not seven – then I think we can be talking about a side that is going to be competing for a place in the Champions League. Should Amorim achieve a top-five finish, he should be up there for the Manager of the Season.<\/p>\n
