Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has suddenly emerged as the bookies’ second-favourite to become the next Premier League<\/a> manager to leave following their Carabao Cup nightmare. The Reds made wholesale changes for their fourth round tie against Crystal Palace but they were dispatched by Oliver Glasner’s side in a 3-0 defeat at Anfield<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The reigning Premier League champions have suffered six defeats in their last seven across all competitions, their only triumph coming in the 5-1 Champions League<\/a> win away to Eintracht Frankfurt.<\/p>\n

Their hopes of defending the title in England’s top-flight are dwindling by the week, with the latest setback coming last Saturday in a 3-2 defeat at Brentford, which allowed Arsenal to move seven points clear of seventh-placed Liverpool.<\/p>\n

Criticism and pressure on the Dutch manager has intensified during the recent run of results, leading to the tactician to drift in the bookmakers’ market for the next Premier League manager to leave. The Liverpool Echo<\/strong> believes, though, there has been no indication that Liverpool are considering the future of Slot \u2013 only the second boss to guide the Reds to the top-flight title since Sir Kenny Dalglish in 1990.<\/p>\n

While any talk of the sack is way too premature<\/a>, Betfair<\/a> have shared that Slot is now only behind under-fire Wolves manager Vitor Pereira in the sack race running. The Portuguese tactician finds his side bottom of the Premier League and he was embroiled in an angry exchange last Sunday, after suffering a late defeat at home to Burnley.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, less than 24 hours after Liverpool’s loss to Palace, a Betfair spokesperson said: \u201cArne Slot has been backed throughout Thursday to become the next Premier League manager to leave in the Premier League. Having been 28\/1 yesterday, the Dutchman is now 5\/2, with the market moving significantly in the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n

\u201cVitor Pereira remains the favourite to leave next, with odds of 4\/11 ahead of the Premier League action getting underway this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his own run of defeats, Liverpool head coach Slot has been edged out by rivals Chelsea and Manchester United to compound their misery.<\/p>\n

West Ham United manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Daniel Farke of Leeds United are behind Slot in the running, but with a significant buffer in the odds of 6\/1 and 12\/1 respectively.<\/p>\n

Liverpool can return to winning ways at home on Saturday against Aston Villa. There will be extra focus on them to as well after making wholesale changes and resting key players in midweek for their cup exit.<\/p>\n

But Slot is adamant that there is always pressure at Anfield. He said: “I don\u2019t think it is possible that if you lose six of seven to have even more pressure, if you are on a run of results like this if you play for Liverpool or manage Liverpool I know the pressure is there.<\/p>\n

“Maybe the most positive thing about tonight is that [at] 2-0 down and not pushing for a goal, the fans were behind the team and supporting us and that gives me the feeling that on Saturday our fans will be incredibly supportive.”<\/p>\n
