The new wash plant<\/a> at Heidelberg\u2019s B&A Group site in Hallen, Bristol is said to be the largest in the UK. <\/p>\n

The \u00a38m investment is designed to provide customers with a reliable supply of high-quality recycled aggregates<\/a> for use in construction projects.<\/p>\n

The new wash plant<\/a> separates, washes and processes up to 400,000 tonnes of excavated waste (primarily soils) a year from construction, demolition<\/a> and industrial sites, public works and utility projects. It can process inert soils into fine and coarse aggregates<\/a> and is fitted with a drainage and water recovery system to capture and recirculate the water used, minimising its impact on the environment.<\/p>\n

B&A Group, established in 1993 as Bristol & Avon Transport & Skip Hire Ltd in 1993 by the late Jimmy Berkely, was acquired by Heidelberg Materials (formerly Hanson UK) in May 2024.<\/p>\n

B&A Group managing director Helen Griffin said: \u201cOur new bespoke wash plant<\/a> enables on-site recovery and washing of material, turning soil into recycled aggregates<\/a>, helping meet increasing demand for more sustainable construction products.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt also diverts more material from landfill and on-site washing helps meet environmental permit standards and avoids contamination concerns, supporting regulatory compliance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Heidelberg Materials UK recycling director Richard Wilcock said: \u201cOur new recycling wash plant<\/a> at B&A Group is the first of a number we have planned to enable us to increase our capacity of recycled products. It is part of our strategy to enable our customers to build more, with less and another step towards achieving our aim to deliver 50% of our revenue from sustainable products by 2030.\u201d<\/p>\n
