A town centre shop<\/a> has been ordered to close for three months after illegal<\/a> vapes and cigarettes were discovered inside.<\/p>\n

Police and trading standards officers seized the illicit goods during three raids at Bry’s Mini Market on Bradshawgate, in Leigh<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It follows multiple complaints being made about the store by members of the public.<\/p>\n

An order for a three-month closure was granted at Wigan<\/a> and Leigh Magistrates Court yesterday (October 30), while the local authority can apply for an extension if necessary.<\/p>\n

Councillor Kevin Anderson, portfolio holder for police, crime and civil contingencies on Wigan council, said: “This closure order is the latest example of the council taking action against unscrupulous traders found to be selling illegal cigarettes or vapes.<\/p>\n

“Working alongside our partners in the police, we have seized tens of thousands of illegal vapes and illicit goods in recent years, worth thousands of pounds, and we will continue this enforcement work to prevent and deter others from this activity.”<\/p>\n

The shop was targeted by Wigan’s Community Safety Partnership (CSP), which includes the council’s trading standards team, Greater Manchester Police<\/a> and other partners.<\/p>\n

Wigan council says the illegal products seized were putting residents at risk of harm – particularly children.<\/p>\n

Jo Platt, Labour<\/a> MP for Leigh and Atherton, said: “This decisive action sends a clear message: we\u2019re standing together to make Leigh safer, cleaner, and more vibrant for everyone.”<\/p>\n

In a post on her Facebook page, she added: “This is what community power looks like. If you\u2019re a ‘business’ engaged in illegal activities I suggest you pack your bags and leave Leigh, because there will be no let-up.”<\/p>\n
