A flight attendant has revealed the shocking reason you should never drink the coffee served on an aeroplane.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kevin, a flight attendant for a US airline, warned passengers in a\u00a0TikTok<\/a>\u00a0post to avoid ordering the hot drink while on` board as the way it is made can be extremely unsanitary.<\/p>\n

It came as a response to a pilot who cautioned flyers not to drink the coffee on board as the water tanks are ‘rarely, if ever, cleaned’.<\/p>\n

‘They\u00a0use this water to make coffee on board. I don’t want to think about the mold and bacteria growing in those tanks,’ the pilot added.<\/p>\n

Kevin was quick to agree and stunned viewers when he\u00a0blasted the hygiene processes, claiming that coffee pots are taken to the toilets to be emptied – and that the jugs ‘get a little close’ to the toilet, risking ‘backsplash’ right into the coffee maker.<\/p>\n

He says:\u00a0‘The fact that the tanks rarely get cleaned that the water is in should be the least of your concern. For me it’s always been the way that flight attendants have to clean out coffee pots.<\/p>\n

‘For whatever reason we’re not supposed to empty coffee pots in drains, we’re supposed to dump it down a toilet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘So when you take a coffee pot and dump it in the toilet, in order to not make a huge mess everywhere you kind of have to get a little close to the toilet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘I imagine that there’s some kind of backsplash of particles or bacteria that goes directly into the coffee pot, which gets right back into the coffee maker.<\/p>\n

‘So unless the airline that you’re flying has an espresso maker on the plane, I would not get regular drip coffee.’<\/p>\n

The video has amassed more than 726,000 views and has spooked coffee-lovers who often buy the drink onboard.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One shocked viewer commented below:\u00a0‘Noted, never drinking coffee on a plane again.’<\/p>\n

A second said: ‘Seriously, what the actual f***k, this alone warrants a regulatory audit.’<\/p>\n

A fellow flight attendant agreed that this is common practice: ‘FA, can confirm we\u2019re required to dump coffee in the TOILET and we\u2019ve had coffee inoperative because of ECOLI in the water tank.’\u00a0<\/p>\n

While another concerned user said: ‘The coffee one is making me cry’.<\/p>\n
