{"id":54004,"date":"2025-04-27T05:55:09","date_gmt":"2025-04-27T05:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/54004\/"},"modified":"2025-04-27T05:55:09","modified_gmt":"2025-04-27T05:55:09","slug":"glasgow-rock-star-to-perform-at-community-halls-100th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/54004\/","title":{"rendered":"Glasgow rock star to perform at community hall&#8217;s 100th anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A member\u00a0of the Glasgow rock band Del Amitri is set to perform at a community hall in Glasgow next week.<\/p>\n<p>Accordion and keyboard player Andy Alston, in the band best known for the tune Nothing Ever Happens, will take to the stage.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019ll perform at Woodside Hall on May 2 to celebrate its 100th anniversary and raise money for their community fridge.<\/p>\n<p>Andy hadn\u2019t set foot in the hall until just over a month ago, but quickly fell in love with it.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cI\u2019ve lived in Glasgow for years and years, since around 1991, and toured the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut a month ago, I was taken into the hall, and it\u2019s beautiful, like it\u2019s preserved in aspic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d always seen the red brick exterior when I\u2019d been at the Lidl nearby, but when you get inside the place, it opens up like a Christmas present, it\u2019s such a great space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s special, it\u2019s got that same kind of magic like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/topics\/barrowlands\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Barrowlands;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Barrowlands<\/a> has that you only get with a place steeped in history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andy Alston, Mark Ferrari, and David Archibald (Image: Newsquest\/Colin Mearns)The Woodside Hall has been a space for the local community for the past century, and regularly offers a venue for groups and events.<\/p>\n<p>Jenny Garcia Bree, spokesperson for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/topics\/maryhill\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Maryhill;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Maryhill<\/a> Community Central Halls, who manage the venue, said: \u201cThe hall has been at the heart of the community and has been a public space for all of its 100 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thought what better way to celebrate this milestone than to welcome people into the space and put on an event that shows off the rich and diverse culture of the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s nice to celebrate this alongside Glasgow\u2019s 850th anniversary too, it feels like a really special time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andy became the creative director of the event through his passion for the hall and for raising money for the project.<\/p>\n<p>(Image: Newsquest\/Colin Mearns)<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019ll see his band, Andy Alston and The Earthly Delights, joined by The Tenementals, an eight-piece band who aim to use their songs to tell the &#8220;radical history&#8221;
