The ‘despicable’ and ‘calculated’ cowboy builder who conned an elderly women has been jailed.<\/p>\n
Patrick Coyle stole money from victims across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and North Wales by failing to complete work he had been commissioned for.<\/p>\n
In total, the 57-year-old conned his six victims from Oldham<\/a>, Bispham, Lytham, Blackpool and North Wales – out of \u00a325,000.<\/p>\n When one of his victims was quoted \u00a39,000 by Coyle for repairs to a wall and they asked, ‘what are the bricks made of, pure gold?’<\/p>\n In statements read out at Preston Crown Court, the victims described how they felt betrayed by Coyle and were left feeling anxious and distrustful.<\/p>\n Lancashire Police said one of them said Coyle knew her husband was dying, and he had taken advantage of that to target her, LancsLive reports.<\/a><\/p>\n Coyle, of Common Edge Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation and was sentenced at Preston Crown Court today (October 31) to a total of 28 months imprisonment.<\/p>\n Recorder Clancy described his offending as ‘calculated and shameful’.<\/p>\n Det Con Jim Hall, of the force’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit, said: “Coyle\u2019s behaviour is absolutely despicable. In targeting his victims, he has preyed on mainly elderly or vulnerable people and exploited them for his own personal financial gain.<\/p>\n “I welcome the custodial sentence given to him today.”<\/p>\n
