Former England goalkeeper Mary Earps has called out Sarina Wiegman\u2019s \u2018bullsh*t\u2019 as she hits out at the Lionesses boss for rewarding her replacement Hannah Hampton for \u2018bad behaviour\u2019.<\/p>\n

Earps was England No.1 for their triumph at Euro 2022, but announced her retirement from international duty just weeks before last summer\u2019s Euros, after Hampton had been recalled to the squad.<\/p>\n

Hampton was the hero in the final, saving two spot kicks as England retained the trophy, and was hugely impressive throughout the tournament.<\/p>\n

Earps claims in her new autobiography \u2018All In\u2019 that Hampton\u00a0\u2018frequently risked derailing training sessions and team resources\u2019 as she questioned why Wiegman has reinstated her to the squad.<\/p>\n

Hampton was dropped from the England squad in October 2022 and while Wiegman refused to explain why at the time, reports claimed it was down to her poor attitude.<\/p>\n

\u2018It affected us all in a domino effect to an extent that was extremely unusual in a successful elite team environment,\u2019 Earps wrote in her book.<\/p>\n

Hampton was recalled in 2023 and Earps took her concerns to Wiegman when the Dutch boss chose to start the Chelsea goalkeeper in a qualifying match against the Republic of Ireland in 2024, telling the manager:\u00a0\u2018I don\u2019t get it. It\u2019s a qualifier match. And bad behaviour is being rewarded.\u2019<\/p>\n

Earps then explained how he relationship with Wiegman deteriorated as Hampton was handed more opportunities ahead of her.<\/p>\n

\u2018This felt unjust. My eyes welled with tears,\u2019 she wrote.<\/p>\n

\u2018It was a choice that went against my core values. The affinity I had for Sarina and this job \u2013 one I\u2019d given every last cell of myself to \u2013 was being destroyed, the trust and respect evaporating.\u2019<\/p>\n

And Earps decided to announce her retirement when Wiegman named Hampton as her first-choice goalkeeper in 2025, accusing the Lionesses boss of \u2018bullsh*t\u2019.<\/p>\n

Earps was left \u2018extremely disappointed\u2019 by the decision, telling Wiegman that she \u2018could have been more direct and honest\u2019.<\/p>\n

Wiegman responded by telling Earps she had only come to the decision recently, insisting she had communicated openly.<\/p>\n

\u2018That sounded like bulls*** to me,\u2019 Earps wrote.<\/p>\n

Last week Hampton spoke glowingly of Earps and her contribution to women\u2019s football in an interview with Glamour magazine.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone\u2019s trying to say that there\u2019s bad blood between us, and it\u2019s so horrible to see because if you question it, people are going to be like, she\u2019s just doing this for that.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t question it, and people are like, \u2018Oh, she\u2019s not said anything about it.\u2019 It\u2019s so hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earps presented Hampton with the best goalkeeper award at the Ballon d\u2019Or in September, with the Chelsea goalkeeper insisting it was a \u201clovely\u201d moment.<\/p>\n

Hampton said: \u201cShe\u2019d pushed so much for that award, and she pushed for the women\u2019s game and for women\u2019s goalkeeper to be seen and recognised.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything she\u2019s done for the England game and women\u2019s football in general is something I\u2019ve wanted to continue and build on. I\u2019ve got big shoes and big gloves to fill. I\u2019m trying my hardest.
