If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian government did not immediately respond to Trump\u2019s threat.<\/p>\n<p>The social media post comes a day after the US president announced that Nigeria would be added to the Department of State\u2019s list of \u201cCountries of Particular Concern\u201d, which is set up to monitor religious persecution around the world.<\/p>\n<p>In recent months, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/10\/8\/ted-cruz-blames-nigeria-for-mass-murder-of-christians-whats-the-truth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">right-wing lawmakers<\/a> and other prominent figures in the US have claimed that violent disputes in Nigeria are part of a campaign of \u201cChristian genocide\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/news\/2025\/05\/nigeria-mounting-death-toll-unchecked-attacks-armed-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">human rights groups<\/a> have urged the Nigerian government to do more to address unrest in the country, which has experienced deadly attacks by Boko Haram and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/10\/31\/al-qaeda-linked-jnim-says-one-killed-in-its-first-nigeria-attack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">other armed groups<\/a>, experts say claims of a \u201cChristian genocide\u201d are false and simplistic.<\/p>\n<p>A few hours before Trump\u2019s threat, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu released a statement stressing that his government \u201ccontinues to address security challenges which affect citizens across faiths and regions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe characterisation of Nigeria as religiously intolerant does not reflect our national reality, nor does it take into consideration the consistent and sincere efforts of the government to safeguard freedom of religion and beliefs for all Nigerians,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/officialABAT\/status\/1984640117361840491\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tinubu said<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria opposes religious persecution and does not encourage it. Nigeria is a country with constitutional guarantees to protect citizens of all faiths,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur administration is committed to working with the United States government and the international community to deepen understanding and cooperation on protection of communities of all faiths.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kimiebi Ebienfa, a spokesperson for Nigeria\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stressed his country\u2019s commitment to protecting all of its citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Federal Government of Nigeria will continue to defend all citizens, irrespective of race, creed, or religion,\u201d Ebienfa wrote in a statement on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike America, Nigeria has no option but to celebrate the diversity that is our greatest strength.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Nigerian government denies US president\u2019s claim of not stemming \u2018horrible atrocities\u2019 against Christians.
