Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has laughed off suggestions Arne Slot’s job should be on the line after suffering six defeats in the last seven matches<\/p>\n

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has rubbished suggestions that Arne Slot’s job should be under threat. The Dutchman led the Reds to the Premier League<\/a> title in his first season in charge after taking over from Jurgen Klopp.<\/p>\n

But after a summer of huge change at Anfield<\/a>, which saw Liverpool<\/a> spend more than \u00a3400m on new signings and recoup more than \u00a3200m in sales, Slot’s second campaign in the hotseat is proving more difficult.<\/p>\n

After an excellent start to the season, which saw his side win their opening seven matches after losing the Community Shield to Crystal Palace on penalties, the Reds’ form has nosedived.<\/p>\n

They had lost six of their last seven matches in all competitions before beating Aston Villa 2-0 at Anfield tonight<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Slot<\/a> has the full backing of the club’s owners FSG<\/a> and the club’s supporters but such is the nature of modern football, there has been questions in the media over whether his tenure should be in jeopardy.<\/p>\n

But former Villa manager Gerrard, who is working tonight’s match as a pundit for TNT Sports, said: “Listen, the job he done from taking the reins off Jurgen Klopp<\/a> was impeccable and he deserves a lot of praise for that.<\/p>\n

“So that’s the reason why it’s been frustrating the last few weeks, people calling him for to be sacked and for there to be changes – that’s absolute nonsense.<\/p>\n

“But if you make that many changes in a short space of time, there’s going to have to be a transitional period somewhere, then if you add a few injuries in there, it’s going to be a challenging time.<\/p>\n

“But to be fair to the manager he’s tried to explain these situations in the media and then people are accusing him of using excuses – he’s not.<\/p>\n

“He’s explaining the reality and the facts of the situation. But what he is saying he is game for fixing it, he’s up for fixing it, and tonight’s the first opportunity to do that.”<\/p>\n
