This is the harrowing moment a firework explodes in front of a police officer in the heart of Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Footage has emerged showing a group of thugs on a busy Corporation Street dangerous firing volley after volley of fireworks towards the junction of New Street.<\/p>\n

Without any regard for pedestrians, they continue to risk injuries with their utterly reckless behaviour.<\/p>\n

A police van arrives and an officer runs towards the group when a big flash can be seen with a loud bang.<\/p>\n

It is believed the shocking incident was one of several involving fireworks on Halloween night, including outside New Street Station around 9pm and then along Bagot Street.<\/p>\n

Fireworks were also aimed at a National Express West Midlands bus with passengers during the night of mayhem.<\/p>\n

West Midlands Police<\/a> arrested nine people \u2013 aged between 13 and 23 \u2013 in connection with public order, throwing fireworks and possession of an offensive weapon.<\/p>\n

Fortunately no one was said to be injured.<\/p>\n

Police said on Saturday: “We arrested nine people after tackling unacceptable disorder where fireworks were launched in Birmingham<\/a> city centre.<\/p>\n

“We took strong action following a number of incidents where fireworks were set off last night and into this morning (1 November).<\/p>\n

“From around 9pm there were pockets of disorder where some were thrown dangerously near New Street.<\/p>\n

“Then at around 2.15am there were fireworks launched by a group towards buildings, police officers and each other in Bagot Street.<\/p>\n

“Thankfully, no-one was injured as a result of a firework being thrown.<\/p>\n

“We detained nine people \u2013 aged between 13 and 23 \u2013 in connection with public order, throwing fireworks and possession of an offensive weapon.<\/p>\n

“We won\u2019t tolerate such appalling actions and we\u2019ll continue to have a visible police presence in and around the city centre.<\/p>\n

“We also have a dispersal order in place.<\/p>\n

“We want to be clear; anyone who is involved in such irresponsible behaviour risks being arrested and prosecuted.<\/p>\n
