Ricky Gervais<\/a>\u2019 \u2018rejected\u2019 tube advertisements have been addressed by Transport for London<\/a> (TfL).<\/p>\n In several tweets on social media<\/a>, the comic, 64, shared adverts for his Dutch Barn vodka, which he alleged had been rejected from appearing in tube stations in the capital.<\/p>\n \u2018Welcome to London. Don\u2019t forget your stab vest,\u2019 read one advertisement showing Ricky posing with his product.<\/p>\n The tweet caused several social media users to falsely claim the After Life star had \u2018personally paid\u2019 for the adverts and that London Mayor Sadiq Khan had ordered their removal.<\/p>\n The caption from the comic read: \u2018They said no.\u2019<\/p>\n However, TfL has claimed that they had not seen the advertisement, highlighting London\u2019s problem with knife crime<\/a>.<\/p>\n \t\t \t\t They told Metro: \u2018<\/strong>These adverts were never referred to TfL or their advertising partners for consideration. Alternative creatives for Dutch Barn have been accepted and are running on our network.\u2019<\/p>\n The tweet was linked to a string of several other cheeky advertisements, with an initial ad that read: \u2018One day you\u2019ll be underground for good.\u2019<\/p>\n For this advert, Ricky claimed: \u2018I\u2019ve had to come up with some new billboard ideas for London Underground. <\/p>\n \u2018This one was rejected on the grounds that \u201cit may be construed as implying that because life is short, one might as well drink, potentially to excess.\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n His other adverts also featured tongue-in-cheek comments, including: \u2018Your tube driver\u2019s favourite drink in the morning.\u2019<\/p>\n Fans have had mixed feelings about the adverts, with many of his fans calling them \u2018bangers\u2019. Others have branded them \u2018insensitive\u2019.<\/p>\n \t\t The star is best known for his work on The Office<\/a>, Life\u2019s Too Short, and Derek.<\/p>\n He has never been afraid to cross the line, and earlier this year, found himself in hot water with a dicey Hollywood Walk of Fame speech<\/a>.<\/p>\n He joked about how grateful he is to have his star sitting alongside some other legends of the business, naming celebrities who have been accused of sexual misconduct.<\/p>\n \u2018Thank you so much for this honour,\u2019 Ricky began, per\u00a0Variety<\/a>. \u2018It\u2019s a genuine thrill to be part of such an exclusive club.<\/p>\n \u2018And just looking around earlier at all the other stars, absolute icons, you know?
