{"id":545553,"date":"2025-11-03T04:45:36","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T04:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/545553\/"},"modified":"2025-11-03T04:45:36","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T04:45:36","slug":"uk-must-speed-up-net-zero-aviation-says-tony-blair-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/545553\/","title":{"rendered":"UK must speed up net-zero aviation, says Tony Blair \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.K. has made the rollout of SAF central to hitting climate targets while expanding airport capacity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is the third intervention on U.K. net-zero policy from the former prime minister this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the TBI urged Energy Secretary Ed Miliband to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/tony-blair-uk-should-drop-clean-power-targets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">drop his pursuit<\/a> of a clean power system by 2030 and focus instead on reducing domestic bills. This followed a report in April claiming the government\u2019s approach to net zero was \u201cdoomed to fail\u201d\u00a0\u2014\u00a0something which caused annoyance at the top of the government and\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/newsletter\/london-playbook\/a-net-zero-sum-game\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pissed off<\/a>\u201d Labour campaigners then door-knocking ahead of local elections.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Aviation <a href=\"https:\/\/commonslibrary.parliament.uk\/research-briefings\/cbp-8826\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contributed seven percent<\/a> of the U.K.&#8217;s annual greenhouse gas emissions in 2022, equivalent to around 29.6 million tons of CO2.
