Although we\u2019re still extremely bummed the award-winning beauty brand Ami Col\u00e9 shuttered<\/a> at the end of September, it\u2019s exciting to hear the brand\u2019s founder, Diarrha N\u2019Diaye<\/a>, has just been tapped as the executive vice president at Skims Beauty. <\/p>\n That\u2019s right\u2014Kim Kardashian and her cofounder and CEO Jens Grede recently announced the expansion of Skims into beauty<\/a> and are clearly serious about building an all-star team. N\u2019Diaye\u2019s new role will see her leading the charge of product development, innovation, and brand strategy across both beauty and fragrance. <\/p>\n \u201cKim will lead the vision, but we dance so beautifully together,\u201d N\u2019Diaye told Cosmopolitan. \u201cI will be working to bring the products to a world where everyone feels they can relate. Fashion can feel aspirational, but for beauty, we also want it to feel accessible.\u201d<\/p>\n One look at N\u2019Diaye\u2019s r\u00e9sum\u00e9 and you can see she\u2019s more than qualified for the gig. The first-generation Senegalese American has worked in marketing and product development at L\u2019Or\u00e9al Paris and Glossier. She then went on to launch her own brand, Ami Col\u00e9, in 2021, which won dozens of industry awards (including plenty of Cosmo Holy Grail Beauty Awards honors<\/a>) and was sold at over 600 Sephora stores. <\/p>\n Until now, Skims has been a multibillion-dollar empire built on women\u2019s underwear, loungewear, and shapewear. But did we really think Kardashian and Grede would stop there? When KKW Beauty and SKKN by Kim<\/a> didn\u2019t quite reach the same heights, it felt inevitable that she\u2019d circle back\u2014and this go-around, the timing (and the team) feel right. Add in the brand\u2019s new Nike partnership<\/a>, and Skims\u2019 beauty expansion feels like the next logical, and frankly thrilling, move.<\/p>\n We\u2019re eager to see the magic unfold. N\u2019Diaye was widely praised for her inclusive shade ranges, thoughtful marketing, and outspoken advocacy for diversity, equity, and inclusion\u2014exactly the kind of energy Skims Beauty needs as it finds its footing.<\/p>\n As for what\u2019s next? No details yet\u2014but N\u2019Diaye is already all ears and taking notes.<\/p>\n \u201cThe biggest thing about finding what products people need is being a good listener. And I\u2019ve been doing that forever. Growing up in my mom\u2019s hair salon in Harlem, which has been there for over 40 years, it was natural,\u201d she told Cosmo. \u201cI heard people sharing tips, and I\u2019d find the common denominator and find where the white space is. I\u2019ve always held on to that. Now I\u2019m not sitting in a hair salon. My hair salon is the internet, Reddit, and going to trade shows like CosmoProf. I\u2019m also walking the streets of Brooklyn and seeing what people are wearing and connecting the dots.\u201d<\/p>\n That level of curiosity and community is exactly the kind of reincarnation we\u2019re craving after Ami Col\u00e9\u2019s untimely end. Kim seems to get it, too, telling WWD<\/a>, \u201cI want Skims Beauty to be a place where everyone feels represented, and there is no better person to help us do that than Diarrha.\u201d<\/p>\n Agreed.
