{"id":547146,"date":"2025-11-03T22:36:20","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T22:36:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/547146\/"},"modified":"2025-11-03T22:36:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T22:36:20","slug":"french-taxi-driver-cleared-of-stealing-from-david-lammy-after-fare-dispute-david-lammy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/547146\/","title":{"rendered":"French taxi driver cleared of stealing from David Lammy after fare dispute | David Lammy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A French taxi driver accused of stealing money and luggage from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/david-lammy\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Lammy<\/a> has been acquitted due to lack of evidence, a prosecutor said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Nassim Mimun, 40, drove the deputy prime minister and his wife, Nicola Green, more than 600km (370 miles) from Forli, near Bologna in northern Italy, to the ski resort of Flaine in the French Alps on 11 April.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">But at the end of the journey the \u201ctone escalated\u201d over the cost of the fare, the Bonneville prosecutor Boris Duffau said in May.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The driver, from the south-eastern city of Avignon, then left with his passengers\u2019 bags in the boot of his car. \u201cHe dropped them off the next day at a municipal police station\u201d but that was considered theft due to the length of time he had them in his possession, Duffau said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The driver accused Lammy in media interviews of refusing to pay for the journey and complained of violence.
