Birmingham City\u2019s chairman has made a bold claim about the club\u2019s proposed new stadium as a major update draws closer.<\/p>\n
Blues\u2019<\/a> massive Sports Quarter project could transform part of the city, with a \u201cworld-class\u201d training centre, women\u2019s stadium, arena and mixed-used development planned alongside the stadium.<\/p>\n The club announced the purchase of a vacant site in east Birmingham<\/a>, formerly known as Birmingham Wheels, from the Birmingham City Council<\/a> last year and have since unveiled plans to create a \u201cglobal destination\u201d.<\/p>\n READ MORE: <\/strong>‘Can Birmingham City Council handle largest planning application the city has ever seen in its history’<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Amid these proposals, the government announced last year that \u00a32.4 billion worth of funding would go towards connecting the planned Sports Quarter to the city centre.<\/p>\n At the club\u2019s most recent Open House event, fans were given further insight into the Blues\u2019 vision for the new stadium, which has been designed to attract huge shows and concerts to the city.<\/p>\n Blues chairman Tom Wagner also confirmed the stadium design will be revealed later this month on November 20.<\/p>\n He went on to claim the new stadium would be visible from the edge of the Cotswolds when asked about the new city centre store opened by rivals Aston Villa<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I go the Bullring, there\u2019s a certain sports store that really pains me,\u201d someone attending the event asked. \u201cWould you consider, as another revenue stream, setting up a store in the city or elsewhere?\u201d<\/p>\n Wagner responded: \u201cIf you think seeing that store pains you because you can see it from 30 yards away, imagine how they\u2019re going to feel when there\u2019s a stadium you can see from every single place in the city.<\/p>\n \u201cI was standing on a hill just outside Broadway [in south Worcestershire<\/a>] about 35 miles away and you will see the stadium from there.\u201d<\/p>\n CEO Jeremy Dale added that the club is looking at other retail locations.<\/p>\n The ambition behind the stadium proposals being showcased at the event sparked a fresh wave of optimism among fans, with one writing on social media: \u201cTears of joy not sorrows.<\/p>\n \u201cThe giant is waking up from its slumber and will never fall asleep again.\u201d<\/p>\n READ MORE: <\/strong>Six things we\u2019ve learnt about Birmingham Sports Quarter project amid major updates<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n \u201cIt will be a class stadium \u2013 modern and with traditional roots of history to go with it,\u201d another said.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m a life-time Blues fan who has experienced very little joy and too many sorrows in those 60 years,\u201d a third added. \u201cBut I\u2019m more excited about BCFC now than ever before.<\/p>\n \u201cThank you Tom Wagner and Knighthead from the bottom of my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n The proposals are also being hailed by local politicians, with West Midlands Mayor<\/a> Richard Parker recently describing the project as \u201cgame-changing\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cWorld-class businesses like Knighthead Capital are investing because they share our vision and confidence,\u201d the Labour<\/a> mayor said.<\/p>\n Wagner last month revealed the team responsible for creating the club\u2019s new stadium, with the collaboration involving award-winning British designers Heatherwick Studio.<\/p>\n![\"A](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/0_Sports-Quarterjfif.jpg\")
