Whatever Celtic<\/a> supporters think of Dermot Desmond<\/a>, the fact of the matter is, he has a big call to make in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

Martin O\u2019Neill is holding the fort<\/a>, and whilst he has done what he does best, including beating Rangers at Hampden on Sunday in the League Cup semi-final.<\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t seem as though the Treble-winning coach will become Celtic\u2019s full-time manager, but Kris Boyd<\/a> feels Desmond could be making a statement by heading down to England for the next coach. <\/p>\n

Speaking on Sky Sports, Boyd feels that if Desmond can lure Kieran McKenna to Glasgow<\/a>, it will be a \u2018statement\u2019 from the Irishman. <\/p>\n

The former striker compared the situation to when Desmond first bought Rodgers<\/a> to Celtic in 2016, and how much of a big deal it was.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s an interesting one,\u201d said Boyd. \u201cFor Dermot Desmond to go about it the way that he did. The last time Celtic were probably in this scenario as such would have been in 2016 when Brendan Rodgers first arrived. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think anybody would have thought that Celtic could have attracted Brendan Rodgers at the time. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut Dermot Desmond made a statement and went and got (Rodgers). I will say it. I have said it before, I think Brendan Rodgers is an elite coach. He has shown that for a period of time, he has been at football clubs. <\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, if Dermot is to go and get Kieran McKenna, then it is a statement.\u201d<\/p>\n

McKenna\u2019s record at Ipswich<\/p>\n

McKenna has spoken about the Celtic links<\/a>, and has made it clear that he is happy at Ipswich Town, who are pushing for a return to the Premier League.<\/p>\n

The Northern Irishman, who has been a coach at Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, guided Ipswich from England\u2019s third tier to the Premier League in consecutive seasons. <\/p>\n

And this is how McKenna\u2019s record looks on paper so far, including securing a 4-1 win at Queens Park Rangers over the weekend. <\/p>\n
