Everyone knows Mortal Kombat<\/a> cheated in order to encourage you to spend more quarters.<\/p>\n

The original arcade games were designed in such a way that the AI could read your inputs, thus countering absolutely everything you do.<\/p>\n

The newly released Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection<\/a>, sold primarily on its authenticity, retains all of that code \u2013 even if you fiddle with the dip switches and set the difficulty to Very Easy.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, in 2025, it\u2019s causing headaches among newer players who perhaps didn\u2019t understand what they were signing up for.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got a refund for the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection,\u201d one irritated gamer wrote on Reddit<\/a>. \u201cAnd this is coming from someone that actually grew up with Trilogy onwards, the AI input reading is a downright nightmare and it shouldn\u2019t have been like this still, completely unacceptable, one of the worst \u2018remasters\u2019 I\u2019ve ever played.\u201d<\/p>\n

The post is getting downvoted a bit because many are pointing out this isn\u2019t supposed to be a remaster, and is meant to preserve the original experience \u2013 for better or for worse.<\/p>\n

But they\u2019re not alone, and other users are citing similar complaints and stating they\u2019ve also requested refunds.<\/p>\n

The issue must be proving particularly prolific because technically Sony doesn\u2019t have a refund policy for digital games.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s known to make exceptions in extreme circumstances \u2013 like Cyberpunk 2077<\/a> and MindsEye<\/a> \u2013 but generally it doesn\u2019t allow its customers to return digital games.<\/p>\n

But in this instance, it does seem like customer support is accepting return requests, as evidenced in the aforementioned Reddit<\/a> thread by screenshots with a PlayStation representative.<\/p>\n

To be fair, Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection does have other more legitimate issues right now involving input lag on the PS5<\/a>, which developer Digital Eclipse has promised to patch. More details are due this week.<\/p>\n

But how do you feel about fans returning retro games like this because they play as they were originally designed to? It\u2019s a tricky issue.<\/p>\n

We wouldn\u2019t be surprised if the team eventually patched in a rebalanced difficulty toggle as an option which tones down the AI input reading, because it does feel like most fans aren\u2019t really jiving with the way these games were originally designed.<\/p>\n
