{"id":548217,"date":"2025-11-04T10:16:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-04T10:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/548217\/"},"modified":"2025-11-04T10:16:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T10:16:11","slug":"scottish-rugby-fans-asked-for-greatest-murrayfield-moment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/548217\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottish rugby fans asked for greatest Murrayfield moment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">On 1 March 1975, Scotland edged out Wales 12-10 in a Five Nations thriller that has gone down in folklore for the sheer scale of the crowd. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">More than 100,000 fans officially packed the terraces, aslthough many believe the true number was closer to 130,000 \u2013 a figure that remains the stuff of legend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Former Scotland player and head coach Sir Ian McGeechan is one of the panel and shared his memories of the day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;In those days, you just turned up, bought your ticket, and walked in \u2013 no pre-booking,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The SRU never accepted it was 130,000 \u2013 but it was. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;People were worried about the numbers \u2013 children being lifted down over the barriers to sit by the pitch. You couldn&#8217;t imagine it now, but it was incredible to witness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I was playing that day and one of the most enduring memories was the schoolboys sitting along the touchline, all in their uniforms, as was the style. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We stopped Wales winning the Grand Slam. You remember the way you felt, not just what happened.
