Police confirmed that the man who died after being seriously injured in Dungiven was 69-year-old Patrick Flanagan from the Derry area.<\/p>\n
A man who died after being seriously injured following a suspected hit and run has been named by police as 69-year-old Patrick Flanagan.<\/p>\n
It comes as police said they are continuing to investigate the incident and again appealed for information.<\/p>\n
Mr Flanagan \u2013 from the Derry area \u2013 was found seriously injured near Dungiven in the early hours of Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
He later passed away in hospital.<\/p>\n
SDLP MLA Cara Hunter said the local community has been left in shock following the incident. <\/p>\n
“My heart goes out to the family and friends of the man who has tragically lost his life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
“It’s concerning that police believe this may have been a hit and run and I would urge anyone with information to come forward.”<\/p>\n
Sinn Fein MLA Caoimhe Archibald said: \u201cThis is a tragedy and my thoughts are with the loved ones of the man who lost his life.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would urge anyone with information to come forward to the PSNI and assist with the investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alliance councillor Amy Mairs said: \u201cEvery death on our roads is a tragedy, and it\u2019s deeply upsetting to hear of yet another person losing their life in this way.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy thoughts and sympathies are with the man\u2019s family and loved ones at what will no doubt be an unbelievably difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

PSNI Detective Inspector Gillian Connolly, from the Criminal Investigation Department said: \u201cPolice received a report at approximately 1.35am on Sunday morning that an injured man had been found in the Foreglen Road area.<\/p>\n
\u201cOfficers attended, alongside colleagues from partner emergency services and the injured man was taken to hospital, where he sadly died from his injuries.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are continuing to investigate the circumstances of this incident and we believe at this time that Patrick was struck by a vehicle in a hit and run road traffic collision.<\/p>\n
