was lower than the $2.35bn reported in the previous quarter and down from $2.27bn for the same period last year. However, this figure topped expectations of $2.02bn, according to consensus figures provided by BP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Profit attributable to BP shareholders came in at $1.16bn for the third quarter, which was down from $1.62bn in the second quarter but higher than the $206m reported last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">The company said it intended to execute another $750m in share buybacks prior to fourth quarter results, having announced a repurchase of the same value in the second quarter. Higher borrowing costs are set to add a further \u00a36bn to borrowing, the think-tank said, along with \u00a37bn from policy U-turns since March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">At the same time, the Resolution Foundation said that changes to the economic outlook could offer some relief to the chancellor.
