<\/a><\/p>\nSalon manager Ashley Wilson said when she took a call on Monday afternoon to book in Prue Leith, she had no idea it would be the culinary star.<\/p>\n
\u201cI took a phone call yesterday afternoon from somebody local who uses the salon, asking to book Prue Leith in,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously, we\u2019re not expecting it to be \u2018the\u2019 Prue Leith, so we just didn\u2019t think too much about.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen the more we thought about, I thought no, it\u2019s got to be, and definitely right enough, she came in with her husband.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added: \u201cIt was a surprise for me\u201d.<\/p>\n
Dame Prue arrived wearing one of her signature colourful dresses with matching glasses and earrings, and she and her husband sat side-by-side while salon staff worked on their hair.<\/p>\n
Ms Wilson, who was tasked with blow-drying Dame Prue\u2019s hair to her \u201cexact spec\u201d, described the Bake Off star as \u201can absolute delight\u201d.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cShe was super-friendly, witty, just really warm, really nice.<\/p>\n
\u201cA really nice woman, nice to chat to her.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked whether Dame Prue had let slip anything about who would win the Bake Off final, which airs on Tuesday night, Ms Wilson said: \u201cShe was saying nothing, absolutely nothing.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously that\u2019s super-secret, so (there was) minimal, minimal chat on Bake Off.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said it had been a been a \u201cprivilege\u201d to work on Dame Prue\u2019s hair.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was really exciting. She was a really nice woman and I was really privileged to have met her and actually got to work on her hair,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a big deal for me, I\u2019m delighted.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat wasn\u2019t on my bingo card for today.\u201d<\/p>\n
Salon owner Craig Davidson, who set up the business on Bruntsfield Place 30 years ago, cut Mr Playfair\u2019s hair during the surprise visit.<\/p>\n
He said it was \u201creally nice\u201d to see the couple come to his salon, and that it is \u201cgreat publicity\u201d for a small local business.<\/p>\n
Asked whether Mr Playfair had divulged anything about the Bake Off final, he replied: \u201cThere were no spoilers.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs I was cutting her husband\u2019s hair, he said he would be divorced if he said who won it, so he was keeping tight-lipped.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I did joke that John had told me, so we had a good laugh.\u201d<\/p>\n
At the end of the visit Dame Prue posed for photos with salon staff, before the pair headed off for their charity engagement.<\/p>\n
In a social media post following the visit, the salon shared a picture of Dame Prue posing alongside staff and a stand of cupcakes.<\/p>\n
The caption read: \u201cProof that great hair is the secret ingredient. Loved having Prue Leith with us today.\u201d<\/p>\n
