His work is praised for its psychological depth and technical mastery and is featured in major collections including The Savoy Hotel, London, where there are eight of his paintings on display.

From his early acclaim in Scotland to international exhibitions across London, New York and Hong Kong, the artist has become known for his ability to comment on society’s fascination with celebrity, glamour, and perfection.

Reimagined continues that narrative, but with a more thought-provoking intimate, human focus.

Stuart said: “These new works represent a new direction in my thinking and my art.

“The narrative follows a continued idea representing both family connections and the singular feeling of isolation. Looking at the differences between generations, I’ve explored how we react to the pressures of today’s society – from family expectations to the impact of social media.”

There are two distinct yet connected series. ‘It’s a Generation Thing’ examines the complex relationship between parent and child, revealing the contrast between generational values and the struggle for acceptance in a rapidly changing world. The looser, more painterly technique reflects a sense of unease and emotional honesty – a deliberate move away from the tightly controlled compositions of McAlpine Miller’s earlier works.

The second series turn the lens inward, challenging society’s obsession with accumulation and the illusion of success. Through themes of isolation, clutter, and digital dependency, Stuart highlights the insecurity and loneliness that often lie beneath modern life’s polished surface.

He explained: “Both series are connected by a common thread. They’re about the human condition, what connects us, isolates us, and how we navigate the contradictions of life today.”

The Reimagined paintings range in size from 14 x 14 inches to 40 x 40 inches, with prices from £7,000 to £40,000. Each piece exemplifies McAlpine Miller’s continued evolution – raw, reflective, and resolutely relevant.

Over a career spanning more than three decades, McAlpine Miller’s creative journey has included high-profile commissions such as Sir Paul McCartney’s tour piano, collaborations with large companies such as Renault and Virgin, and collections inspired by cultural icons from Harry Potter to David Bowie and Marilyn Monroe. Yet with Reimagined, he returns to the personal exploring connection, disconnection, and the emotional cost of modern existence.

“We live in an increasingly throwaway society where everything is dictated by the media,” McAlpine Miller said. “My work questions the value of such things, and what really matters in the world we’re creating.”

Reimagined is being unveiled on Wednesday 5 November at Whitespace Gallery, 76 East Crosscauseway on the south side of Edinburgh before being rolled out across the UK.

For art sales enquiries, please contact Stuart McAlpine Miller direct via [email protected] or [email protected]

<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" data-attachment-id="620973" data-permalink="https://theedinburghreporter.co.uk/high_res_mcalpinemiller_/" data-orig-file="https://imagedelivery.net/F92qk9bnhVOT8KcXbWkWyg/theedinburghreporter.co.uk/2025/11/HIGH_RES_McAlpineMiller_.jpg/w=1200,h=800" data-orig-size="1200,800" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"2.8","credit":"","camera":"Canon EOS 5DS","caption":"","created_timestamp":"1502101549","copyright":"Copyright Susie Lowe 2017.
