His stop to deny Yuki Ohashi’s volleyed effort after 21 minutes was smart, as was his movement of his line to keep Andi Gudjohnsen out when he broke onto a through ball. He could do little about Blackburn’s opener and did what was needed of him in the second half.

READ MORE: Bristol City vs Blackburn Rovers live: Struber makes three changes as Atkinson missing for RedsREAD MORE: Gerhard Struber shares Rob Atkinson update as Bristol City boss ‘sad’ for fans after Stoke lossGeorge Tanner – 5

Could the Bristol City defender have perhaps done more for Blackburn’s winner? He did seem to end up slightly in no man’s land as Yuki Ohashi tapped home from close range, but the Japanese forward didn’t appear to be George Tanner’s man. He had a couple of other shaky moments which went unpunished. A run of the mill showing without any real fireworks.

Rob Dickie – 5.5

As was the case with George Tanner, it felt like Rob Dickie could have maybe done more what proved to be the winning goal. While he had to cover the near post, he left his man free to tap home from close range. Recovered well from that point on but was guilty of being a bit loose in possession. On more than one occasion, it felt like he put those around him under pressure.

Haydon Roberts (off for Fally Mayulu, 80’) – 5

On what was his first start under Gerhard Struber, Haydon Roberts had one or two difficult moments. For Blackburn’s goal, the defender appeared to be too easily beaten – as had been the case earlier in the first half – and he was unable to stop Royoya Morishita who assisted the opener. Improved in the second half as he likely worked off his ring-rust before being withdrawn late on. The question remains, is he a long-term defensive option?

Ross McCrorie – 6

Having been restored to the starting line-up, Ross McCrorie probably had Bristol City’s best chance of the game when he turned his header over the bar from close range. While the Scotsman needed to do better with that chance, he produced another solid showing on his wrong side of the pitch after Neto Borges was forced off.

Sign up for our City newsletter

Bristol City looking to build on last season’s play-off finish under Gerhard Struber and you won’t miss a beat with our free newsletter.

All the latest news, views, interviews, gossip and analysis concerning the Robins, delivered straight to your inbox.

It’s completely free and you can sign up HERE

Zak Vyner – 5.5

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Zak Vyner looked rather leggy in the middle of the park for Bristol City on Tuesday night when he has played every minute of the season so far and much of it in a new position. While the Bristol City academy graduate didn’t do loads wrong, he struggled to grab the game by the horns in the middle of the park as he too often let the ball run away from him. The Reds need reinforcements in the middle of the park and quickly.

Adam Randell – 6

In a scrappy first half at Ashton Gate, Adam Randell was his usual lively and energetic self in the middle of the park. Bristol City’s number four broke up play well before the break and attempted to get the ball down on the turf wherever possible. Tried to do the same after the break and still stood out at points. You can’t help but feel he could find another gear if he were to be afforded a rest but that is impossible with City’s current injury list.

Neto Borges (off for Mark Sykes, 24’) – N/A

The Brazilian had started well after a difficult outing in the Potteries at the weekend, but was withdrawn early on with an injury. Bristol City can’t afford to lose any more players for an extended length of time; hopefully, this was a matter of precaution.

Scott Twine – 5

You certainly couldn’t fault Scott Twine’s effort off of the ball on Tuesday evening as the attacking midfielder charged about the pitch like a man on a mission at times, but he struggled to make the most of his good possession. Too often his final ball was left wanting and he gave away position as he was too easily knocked off the ball or went to ground. At his best, he can be such an asset but against Blackburn, it felt like the game passed him by slightly.

Anis Mehmeti – 5.5

Like Scott Twine, it didn’t feel as though Anis Mehmeti left enough of a mark on proceedings against Rovers. While he started well and caused his usual problems in possession, he was guilty on a handful of occasions of trying to do too much and running into cul-de-sacs. He still looks like the player most likely to score a goal in red and white, but it is now all about producing those moments week in and week out.

Bristol City Live on Whatsapp

Join Bristol City Live’s Whatsapp community for all the biggest Bristol City stories sent straight to your phone

Bristol City Live is now on WhatsApp and we want you to join our community.

Through the app, we’ll send the Bristol City news, live match coverage, team news, transfers, fixtures, analysis and more straight to your phone.

To join our community you need to already have WhatsApp. All you need to do is click this link and select ‘Join Community’.

No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Bristol Live team.

We also treat community members to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. Whether that was a result of his own work, or the service into him is up for debate, but supporters didn’t see the best of the Dane. His tough evening continued after the break where, while he managed to get into some better positions, his final ball too often let him down before he was replaced by Sinclair Armstrong.

Substitues:Mark Sykes – 6

He tried to carve out scoring chances from the right wing-back positon and carried a reasonable threat.
