A mysterious new cross-buy icon has been datamined on the PS5.<\/p>\n

The symbol \u2013 discovered on the console itself \u2013 was first shared by Amethxst on X<\/a> (or Twitter<\/a>), who says he believes it has been added since March 2025.<\/p>\n

While other icons discovered by the user are already in use \u2013 such as for the Power Saver mode<\/a> \u2013 the \u2018Cross-Buy\u2019 and \u2018PS5\/PC\u2019 logos have never been seen before. They match Sony\u2019s overall design language, and therefore are legit.<\/p>\n

New Symbols will be added soon (website & tool), but here some nice new features from PlayStation (yes, some are old, other are unseen):
– A kind of “echo mode”
– PS5\/PC games

It remains to be seen how Sony intends to use these symbols, but our best guess is that it\u2019s planning to offer cross-buy between PS5 and PC purchases, a little bit like Xbox\u2019s own \u2018Play Anywhere\u2019 strategy.<\/p>\n

Whether this means the Japanese giant is also plotting its own PC-based version of the PS Store<\/strong><\/a> remains to be seen, although it will be difficult for the company to convince users to move away from Steam. Perhaps it hopes the lure of cross-buy will achieve that.<\/p>\n

Other theories about the \u2018Cross-Buy\u2019 icon pertain to Sony\u2019s rumoured handheld<\/a>, but we always assumed this would just be a portable SKU capable of playing supported games you already own, so we\u2019re not sure why it would need to be labelled as \u2018Cross-Buy\u2019 per se.<\/p>\n

I didn’t think this and @Zuby_Tech<\/a>‘s post would go viral, so:
– The screen is real (see video below)
– The symbols are present on PS5 (not PS4)
– The symbols are official Sony ‘fonts’ (uf-code: EF5B to EF61)<\/p>\n

We suppose it\u2019s equally possible the company could add the \u2018Cross-Buy\u2019 icon to existing games which can be purchased across both the PS5 and PS4, just to make clear you get both versions. This would probably be the least exciting outcome overall, though, and it\u2019s probably worth noting that the symbol is not currently available on the PS4.<\/p>\n

Either way, this is a fascinating discovery, because this symbol does very much appear to be a legitimate part of the PS5 \u2013 and we can\u2019t imagine Sony would add it if it doesn\u2019t intend to use it.<\/p>\n
