Virgil van Dijk<\/a> has responded to criticism by several pundits and ex-players of Liverpool<\/a> after their mixed start to the season, saying it has been \u201cover the top at times\u201d.<\/p>\n

A run of four successive league defeats and six losses in seven games left many wondering whether the reigning Premier League<\/a> champions were in crisis.<\/p>\n

Wayne Rooney<\/a> was among the critical voices, with the former Manchester United<\/a> player questioning Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah\u2019s leadership this season and suggesting their body language had a negative effect on other players.<\/p>\n

Van Dijk responded after Liverpool stopped their barren run with a 2-0 league win over Aston Villa at the weekend, saying he could \u201conly say positive things\u201d about Rooney but felt the comment was \u201clazy criticism\u201d.<\/p>\n
