Charlton 1 West Bromwich Albion 0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sonny Carey scored the winning goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time as Charlton beat West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at The Valley to go fifth in the Sky Bet Championship.<\/p>\n

The goal was the midfielder\u2019s fifth of the season and capped off a strong defensive display as Nathan Jones\u2019 side kept a sixth clean sheet of the campaign.<\/p>\n

The result highlighted the depth of the Addicks\u2019 squad,\u00a0 missing a few players due to injury, and featured an excellent appearance from the bench by 18-year-old Ibrahim Fullah.<\/p>\n

It had been a tight first half, with Samuel Iling-Junior hitting the stanchion for the visitors early on.<\/p>\n

The Addicks had a 36th-minute penalty saved by Josh Griffiths, who dived low to his right to keep out Greg Docherty\u2019s effort after Ousmane Diakit\u00e9 had handled Miles Leaburn\u2019s knock-down from a Conor Coventry ball into the box.<\/p>\n

Thomas Kaminsky made a big save at the start of the second half to deny Isaac Price. The in-form attacker advanced into the box, but Kaminsky made himself big to deny the Northern Ireland international.<\/p>\n

Griffiths made his second important save of the game 10 minutes into the half, getting down low to his right to keep out Carey\u2019s vicious shot from range.<\/p>\n

The Ginger Genius was not to be denied deep into stoppage time. A cleared ball fell to the midfielder, who took it past a charging defender and powered a shot from 25 yards. The effort took a slight deflection and, combined with the pace, was enough to beat the excellent Griffiths and send the Covered End into jubilation.<\/p>\n

The win means the Addicks are now unbeaten in five games ahead of Saturday\u2019s trip to Wrexham.<\/p>\n
