A derelict eyesore formerly a transport depot will soon be transformed into housing.<\/p>\n

The site off Greenhill Road in Middleton<\/a>, once owned and operated by JW Lees<\/a> Brewery, was left vacant just over 15 years ago. Last year planning approval was granted to overhaul the site and build 24 \u2018high-quality\u2019 homes.<\/p>\n

This means the shabby buildings left there will be demolished and replaced.<\/p>\n

First Choice Homes Oldham<\/a> (FCHO) has now signed a \u00a36.79m contract to build the 24 family homes. Locally based J Walker Homes will now construct 16 homes for social rent and another eight for rent to buy<\/p>\n

The two and three-bedroom homes for the housing association will have green features such as solar panels and an energy performance certificate rating of at least B, according to FCHO.<\/p>\n

Work is due to start this month with an expected completion date scheduled for May 2027.<\/p>\n

The Greenhill Road site will see two parking spaces allocated for the three-bed properties and one parking space for the two-bed properties.<\/p>\n

FCHO executive director of homes, Steve Agger, said: \u201cThis is an exciting new project to add more high-quality and energy efficient family properties to our housing stock in Middleton.<\/p>\n

\u201cPartnering once again with J Walker Homes is another positive aspect of the project.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is an established local company based just a stone\u2019s throw from Greenhill Road with a track record of using local contractors and apprentices.\u201d<\/p>\n
