At the start of November, reports revealed how former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is preparing a \u00a310m bid to buy Sheffield Wednesday<\/a>. Now, pundit Lee Hendrie has confirmed his backing of the English businessman.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Football League World<\/a>, Hendrie gave Ashley\u2019s proposed Hillsborough takeover the seal of approval. He backs Ashley\u2019s knowledge of the game and his business-minded approach, saying it\u2019d be \u2018massive\u2019 if he took over at SWFC.<\/p>\n

Hendrie said: \u201cMike Ashley knows the game; he\u2019s been around it plenty to understand what \u00a310m is for Sheffield Wednesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he can secure the deal, it\u2019d be massive. He\u2019s business-minded, and he has the potential to take the club forward as a man who knows all about the industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it would be great news for Sheffield Wednesday<\/a>, it\u2019s just whether a deal can get done for \u00a310m. That\u2019s what would probably be the holding factor.\u201d<\/p>\n

The latest on Mike Ashley\u2019s Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> takeover<\/p>\n

On November 1st, it was revealed how Ashley was preparing a \u00a310m bid for Sheffield Wednesday<\/a>. He is among the parties to have already shown the \u00a350m proof of funds needed to get the ball rolling on a possible takeover.<\/p>\n

Subsequent reports from iNews<\/a> have now said Ashley is among \u201930 to 40\u2032 investors keen on taking over SWFC. However, that list is expected to be cut down to around 10.<\/p>\n

The same report adds that \u2018the first bids\u2019 for the club could arrive by the end of the week, so it seems very plausible that Ashley could be the Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> owner by the end of the month, if not sooner if the process goes smoothly.<\/p>\n

Ashley has a troubled history with former club Newcastle United. But Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> simply need an owner with guaranteed funds and he certainly seems to be that, though whether he\u2019s the long-term answer for the Owls remains to be seen.<\/p>\n
