Every royal watcher loves a good tiara moment, and while some royal families break out the glittering toppers more often than others, it\u2019s always a special occasion when the ever stylish Queen Letizia of Spain<\/a> gets a chance to show off some sparkle. Such was the case last night, when the Spanish queen and her husband, King Felipe VI, hosted a gala dinner at the Royal Palace in Madrid in honor of Haitham Bin Tariq, the sultan and prime minister of Oman.<\/p>\n

While Letizia is generally known for her modern fashion sense, the queen nodded toward tradition in an elegant, royal blue gown with a high-cut crew neckline and bow-embellished sleeves. She wore the style belted\u2014a signature look of hers\u2014and topped it off with a dramatic duo of jewelry that paid homage to the event. Around her neck, Letizia wore the silver Order of Oman collar, in honor of their guest, while also topping the look with a tiara with a rich royal history.<\/p>\n

The Queen Maria Christina Loop Tiara dates back to 1886, when it was made for Queen Maria Cristina herself, who held regency over Spain from the death of her husband, King Alfonso XII, until the accession of her son, Alfonso XIII, in 1902. The style, which features pearls set in a series of diamond loops has been handed down through generations of Spanish royals, and was a favorite of Letizia\u2019s mother-in-law Queen Sof\u00eda.<\/p>\n

Letizia herself first debuted the piece in 2018 for a state banquet honoring China and has since returned to it for some similar events over the years, including gala banquets in 2021 and 2024. Last year\u2019s wear is perhaps the most notable, in that the queen actually wore the very same dress for that occasion, when she and the women of the royal family of the Netherlands all donned shades of blue<\/a>. In that instance, Letizia wore her hair in a demure updo, but last night she switched things up, wearing her flowing brunette locks in cascading waves.<\/p>\n
