Russell Crowe<\/strong><\/a> has opened up on the influence that director Ridley Scott<\/strong><\/a> has on Henry Cavill<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s looming Highlander<\/strong> reboot. Collider was first to report Crowe\u2019s involvement in Highlander<\/a> back in June, and he was also the first name other than Cavill attached to star in the film. Other big names such as Dave Bautista<\/strong><\/a>, Karen Gillan<\/strong><\/a>, and Jeremy Irons<\/strong><\/a> have since joined the cast of Highlander, which is scheduled to begin production at the start of 2026. Chad Stahelski<\/strong><\/a>, famous for his work directing all four of Keanu Reeves<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 John Wick movies, is directing Highlander with a script from Ryan Condal<\/strong> (House of the Dragon<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Crowe has been cast as Ramirez in Highlander, the same role Sean Connery<\/strong><\/a> played in the 1986 film. During a recent interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Crowe confirmed his role as Ramirez and elaborated on Connery\u2019s version of the character for those who aren\u2019t familiar, \u201cThe character\u2019s name is Ramirez, and Sean played the character brilliantly, obviously, as a Scotsman. But they explain the reason that Ramirez, the Spaniard, had a Scottish accent in the movie by saying that earlier he came from Egypt!\u201d<\/p>\n

Crowe confirmed that he\u2019ll take the character back to his Spanish roots<\/strong>, \u201cChad told me, \u2018If you bring me Spanish, I will take Spanish.\u2019 So I\u2019m gonna do Ramirez as a Spaniard. We shall see<\/strong>.\u201d Crowe then confirmed that he originally was going to perform Maximus as Gladiator<\/strong><\/a> as a Spaniard, until director Ridley Scott chimed in and said, \u201cThere\u2019s no fuckin\u2019 way that you\u2019re doing that.\u201d They settled on what Crowe calls, \u201cRoyal Shakespeare Company two pints after lunch,\u201d which worked out, considering it won five Oscars<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When Does the New Highlander Movie Come Out?<\/p>\n

Highlander does not have an official release date, and it was recently hit with some turmoil, leading to a delay. The film was scheduled to begin production at the end of September, but Henry Cavill suffered an injury during training<\/a>, pushing it back to the start of next year. Cavill got back to work shortly after, though, posting photos of himself in the gym working out with a boot on his leg<\/a>. With Highlander expected to shoot much of next year, it likely won\u2019t arrive in theaters until 2027. Crowe\u2019s next movie, Nuremberg<\/strong><\/a>, hits theaters everywhere this weekend.<\/p>\n
