The Belfast Telegraph and the Irish Independent have today been awarded the Trust Mark, joining The Trust Project, an international consortium of news companies that has developed transparency and integrity standards in journalism.<\/p>\n

The two sites, owned by Belgian media group Mediahuis, have been working with The Trust Project for over a year to implement a range of trust and transparency measures.<\/p>\n

Cormac Bourke, editor-in-chief of Mediahuis Ireland, said: \u201cIntegrity, quality and reliability are at the heart of what we do, and we hope our transparency measures, which we have worked on with our partners, The Trust Project, demonstrate our commitment to earning the trust of our audience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why the Belfast Telegraph is joining the Trust Project<\/p>\n

Mediahuis titles in Aachen, Germany, and Luxembourg have also been recognised as partners of The Trust Project.<\/p>\n

Among the new measures introduced are more easily accessible information about the policies that guide reporters and editors, an improved corrections policy and more ways for people to give feedback.<\/p>\n

Over the coming year, further changes will be made to the Irish Independent and Belfast Telegraph sites as investment is made in technology to strengthen transparency and trust with audiences.<\/p>\n

According to The Trust Project, its \u201cnews partners give you verified journalism at a time when rapid social, technological and political changes urgently call on us all to stay informed and involved\u201d.<\/p>\n
