Nick Kyrgios has provided a big update on the knee injury that has impacted him since 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kyrgios reached the Wimbledon final in 2022<\/a>, but has faced many struggles since then which have prevented him from playing more than six singles matches in the past three years.<\/p>\n

There have been numerous physical issues that have disrupted the Australian, with Kyrgios suffering a wrist injury<\/a>, as well as knee and foot problems.<\/p>\n

After Kyrgios recently hinted at retirement<\/a>, he has now provided a big update on how he is feeling ahead of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios<\/a> has not competed since the Washington Open<\/a>, where he played doubles with Gael Monfils<\/a>, and it has been even longer since his last singles match in March.<\/p>\n

The knee injury was the first major setback Kyrgios suffered, and he underwent surgery on it after withdrawing from the 2023 Australian Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When providing an update on his current situation, Kyrgios told the Australian Associated Press<\/a> that he has noticed a sudden improvement in his knee.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, this has been the first person I\u2019ve told, I guess, to the media, but the last month for me has been, I don\u2019t know what\u2019s changed with my knee,\u201d Kyrgios revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike around that Washington period [in late July], I really didn\u2019t have hope to be able to play AO [Australian Open] or just ever get back to that point of where I felt comfortable and competing and really letting my body go.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut something in the last month, I don\u2019t know what it is. I was with my masseuse and physio last night and something really has changed with my knee. Like it\u2019s not swelling. It\u2019s not feeling bad after a session.\u201d<\/p>\n

After hinting he could now compete at the Australian, Kyrgios is now looking ahead to four exhibitions he is going to play this year.<\/p>\n

The most high-profile of those is the Battle of the Sexes match between Kyrgios and Aryna Sabalenka<\/a> in Dubai, which he has suggested could be a real indicator of his plans for the upcoming year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen if I get through all of that, I\u2019m ready to go,\u201d added Kyrgios. \u201cI don\u2019t know whether to call it a miracle or anything, but my knee feels like it\u2019s gotten younger by a couple of years.\u201d<\/p>\n

How could this change Nick Kyrgios\u2019 plans for the 2026 season?<\/p>\n

Kyrgios does not just appear to be eyeing up a return to the Australian Open, and could also compete at some ATP Tour events next year as well.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Kyrgios partnered Novak Djokovic at the Brisbane International<\/a>, and he has hinted that he could return to the ATP<\/a> 250 event in both singles and doubles.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, it\u2019s all very raw at the moment, but I literally told my agents yesterday there\u2019s a chance that I would love to play Brisbane again in singles [too],\u201d said Kyrgios.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cThere\u2019s no f***ing like, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m gonna win this tournament\u2019. Because after the last couple of months, I lost complete hope. I thought my tennis career was literally coming to doubles, whatever, but I thought that that chapter was closing, where now I\u2019m just optimistic again.\u201d<\/p>\n
