{"id":553885,"date":"2025-11-06T23:12:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T23:12:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/553885\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T23:12:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T23:12:14","slug":"manic-street-preachers-everything-must-go-doc-escape-from-history-for-london-screening-and-qa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/553885\/","title":{"rendered":"Manic Street Preachers&#8217; &#8216;Everything Must Go&#8217; doc &#8216;Escape From History&#8217; for London screening and Q&#038;A"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/manic-street-preachers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manic Street Preachers<\/a> will host a screening of their \u2018Everything Must Go\u2019 doc <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/manic-street-preachers-new-film-ends-everything-must-go-chapter-2044487\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Escape From History <\/a>next week.<\/p>\n<p>The film premiered in 2017 and tells the story of the making of the band\u2019s fourth studio album, which they recorded in the aftermath of the disappearance of lyricist and guitarist Richey Edwards.<\/p>\n<p>The record included the huge singles \u2018A Design For Life\u2019, \u2018Kevin Carter\u2019 and \u2018Australia\u2019, reached Number Two in the UK Albums Chart and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/nme-awards\/awards-history\/1997-606156\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">picked up the Album of the Year prize at the 1997\u00a0NME Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, to mark the 30th\u00a0anniversary of the recording sessions for the album \u2013 which took place at producer Mike Hedges\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/the-cure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Cure<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/siouxsie-and-the-banshees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Siouxsie\u00a0And\u00a0The\u00a0Banshees<\/a>) own studio in Normandy \u2013 there will be a one-off screening of\u00a0Escape\u00a0From\u00a0History\u00a0at Picturehouse Central in London on November 13. Find tickets\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.picturehouses.com\/movie-details\/000\/HO00017130\/scared-to-dance-escape-from-history-q-a?filter=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Following the screening,\u00a0frontman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/james-dean-bradfield\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Dean Bradfield<\/a>\u00a0and director Kieran Evans will be on hand for an in-depth Q&amp;A session\u00a0with Robin Turner\u00a0for those in attendance.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The film\u2019s synopsis reads: \u201cVisually striking and emotionally charged, Escape From History is far more than a music documentary. It is a hauntingly intimate portrait of three musicians standing on the edge of collapse, and of the extraordinary act of creation that carried them through.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe film\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0simply recount the making of a landmark album\u00a0\u2013 it\u00a0captures the human drama behind it, revealing Manic Street Preachers as never before: fragile yet unbreakable, vulnerable yet fearless. Evans\u2019 film is a powerful cinematic portrayal of how, out of the darkest moments, can come a work of blazing light.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The BAFTA-winning Welsh director\u00a0Evans is a long-time collaborator with the band, overseeing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/manic-street-preachers-unveil-first-clip-of-new-film-be-pure-be-vigilant-behave-1555173\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the \u2018Holy Bible\u2019 anniversary tour concert movie, \u2018Be Pure, Be Vigilant, Behave\u2019<\/a>, as well as the \u2018Generation Terrorists\u2019 documentary \u2018Culture, Alienation, Boredom And Despair\u2019, and many of the band\u2019s official music videos.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/manic-street-preachers-new-film-ends-everything-must-go-chapter-2044487\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The band spoke to\u00a0NME\u00a0about the film at the time of its original release in 2017<\/a>, with bassist\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/nicky-wire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nicky Wire<\/a>\u00a0saying:\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019ve\u00a0told this story so many times, so\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0great to let it breathe with so many other voices. Over that\u00a0period\u00a0we had quite\u00a0the\u00a0support network. We were pretty fucked up and odd, but a lot of people stood by us. It feels like\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0nothing else to say about \u2018Everything Must Go\u2019\u00a0any more.\u00a0So\u00a0this is a relief and a pleasure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bradfield added:\u00a0\u201cTo be honest, to be brutal,\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0never have to talk about it again.\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0never have to make a film about it again. I\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0want to do it\u00a0any more. It is nice to\u00a0actually put\u00a0a cap on it and nice to know that you have a definitive film,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0there,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Manics\u00a0released their acclaimed 15th album \u2018Critical Thinking\u2019 in February, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/manic-street-preachers-critical-thinking-album-review-lyrics-tracklist-3836242\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">with NME\u00a0awarding it four stars<\/a>\u00a0and noting:\u00a0\u201cSonically, \u2018Critical Thinking\u2019 has touches of the European modernist propulsion of 2014 renaissance record \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/reviews-manic-street-preachers-15423-307852\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Futurology<\/a>\u2019 and the graceful <a href=\"https:\/\/nme-next.netlify.app\/artists\/abba\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABBA<\/a>\u00a0pop flourishes of 2021 predecessor \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/manic-street-preachers-the-ultra-vivid-lament-review-3035938\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Ultra Vivid Lament<\/a>\u2019.
